Totally AGREE. Why change something if it's working! QuickBooks is getting worse instead of better!
Completely agree. This feature should not have been removed.
I work for an accounting firm that serves many different clients and industries. Many of my clients have also been very upset about this feature being taken away. We will certainly look at other platforms if this is something that cannot be fixed. The ability to view invoice activity at the bottom of the invoices was invaluable. Thank you.
Hi everyone!
We value your business needs and understand the importance of knowing the invoice activity you send to your customers. QuickBooks' recent updates have changed the invoice activity location, and I'm here to guide you where to find it.
Here's how:
Furthermore, you can learn how to record invoice payments and deposit them into the correct account.
The Community is always here to provide the best solution to everyone. Let us know if you have further questions about invoice activity. I'd gladly help you anytime.
I am sorry Mark but it does not show specifically how many days old, or how many days since last sent or viewed etc. This information is important when resubmitting invoices and trying to collect or even knowing when to resend.
Thank you-
Hi Mark,
Thank you for providing instructions on how to get to this timeline. My team is used to searching an invoice from the top bar, which provides a search result that when clicked, goes to the invoice. This is where the timeline used to be. Can you please let me know the best way of accessing this timeline when on an invoice?
David
Thanks for the information Mark, however I think my original thread and this solution have made it full circle with no resolution.
This forum is asking that the QuickBooks software engineers RE-ADD the invoice activity feature that was originally at the bottom of each invoice. This detail showed who and when the invoice was viewed.
This "viewed by" part of the activity detail is missing on the activity tab on the right, so I have no clue if I had opened it or my customer.
Can the "viewed by" column be added back in to each invoice activity or can a report function be added so we can audit the invoice and "who" and "when" it was viewed?
At this point I am not going to create feedback for your engineers because there is enough detail in this thread to propose a solution to them.
Eagerly waiting your response,
Chris S.
@MarkAngeloG Thank you for the information; however, I would like to chime in to the other responses indicating there are fewer steps involved and the simplicity to just look at the top and bottom of the invoice to view the sent and viewed activity.
@MarkAngeloG we are familiar with this new process of seeing the activity history. However this process is nearly useless to our business as we very rarely access invoices from the Sales or Customer page. We access invoices from the search feature or from the invoice links. Once on the invoice, the Activity History used to be available at the bottom the the page as other users have shown with screenshots. Removing this basic feature has caused huge disruption to our workflow.
Our business absolutely needs to be able to see the invoice's history while we have the invoice open, including the first time it was sent, by whom, and when the customer has viewed it.
Again, this feature was available as recently as a couple weeks ago. Its removal with no warning has been quite a time-consuming headache.
We would really appreciate some assurance that the feature will be reinstated as soon as possible.
Thank you

this does not work
@SarahannC Many of us have already used the feedback tool on the gear icon. No change, no response, so how does your customer know the feedback has even been viewed. It seems to fall on deaf ears. I have used feedback for many issues, but nothing ever changes when I post to feedback.
Same here. Our business relied on this information heavily for multiple reasons. Please bring it back.
Quickbooks Online is great at removing things that were useful, and being completely unable to do things that you would think would be a core feature. For example, wouldn't it be great to see an "average days to pay" number for your customers to see how well each of them pay their bills at a glance? How often is this person late? Quickbooks has the information to do this, but won't, regardless of how many comments and submitted feedback they get.
This is yet another case. The way it was was nice. You can still see most of the key points when you click on an invoice in the list, making the right side quick view tab appear that has a little list of the details, when it was sent, viewed, etc, at least.
We also used this key feature. We are quite upset about this change, and quite annoyed by QBO always changing features that don't need to be changed (ie transaction tab on the project page where you now have to scroll horizontally over to see columns and to get that scroll bar, you have to scroll to the bottom of the page to see the horizontal scroll bar. This is a very archaic way to have a webpage - the auto column width with the option to make columns wider in the previous version was a much better, and updated way of presenting a page). But features we asked to be changed or added never get implemented. Not sure who is deciding on these changes at QBO, but from what I can tell, they are not using the software the way the customers of the product are and therefore do not understand our needs. Another bad decision made by QBO.
Agreed, QBO please bring back.
100% agree. Well worded. QBO, please bring it back as we too heavily relied on that information within the invoice page.
We too search for invoices as explained by David. This new method is cumbersome and not helpful. It will take us longer to search for info on an invoice that was easily found before this change.
We follow the same process when looking up invoices and never navigate through the suggested invoice list page. This takes longer. Clearly, the designers at QBO are not looking at how customers use their software. This change was a big mistake and should be added back in.
Agree, we have the same issues with Feedback.
Dear QuickBooks Support Team,
We, the undersigned users of QuickBooks, would like to express our collective concern regarding the removal of a crucial feature – the "viewed by" information at the bottom of each invoice. We appreciate the response received thus far, but it appears that our original request for a resolution has not been adequately addressed.
The absence of this specific detail in the activity tab on the right has left many of us in the dark about important customer interactions with our invoices. As a community, we rely on QuickBooks to provide efficient tools for managing our businesses, and the removal of this feature has had a significant impact on our ability to track invoice views.
We understand that feedback is crucial for software improvement, and we believe the details shared in various threads should provide ample information for your engineers to propose an effective solution. Many of us are hesitant to create additional feedback, given the comprehensive nature of the discussions already present.
Considering the widespread concern among users, we earnestly request the QuickBooks software engineers to reconsider and promptly re-add the invoice activity feature in its original form. This collective appeal reflects the shared sentiment of QuickBooks users who find this tool indispensable for their day-to-day operations.
We trust that QuickBooks values the feedback and needs of its user community and anticipate a swift resolution to reinstate this essential feature.
Sincerely,
Matt - GM Construction Grp
I also find the removal of this feature very frustrating.
We are working on having our customers pay their invoices sooner. To do this, we need to know if the emailed invoice was viewed. If the invoice wasn’t viewed, we may have sent it to the wrong email address, or the email could’ve been sent to a junk folder. If an invoice was viewed weeks ago & is still overdue, we need to know this so that we can begin adding late fees.
Clicking on an invoice to see the popup window on the right doesn't work well for us. Each invoice has a group of “Sent” dates & a group of "Viewed" dates. We currently have a very overdue invoice that has been “Sent” 9 times & “Viewed” 19 times. It would be much easier to read & understand these dates if they were all in 1 timeline at the bottom of the invoice like they used to be. Having the timelines split up like this takes longer to figure out what our next steps should be (call the customer, mail a physical invoice to them, etc.) If the invoice was sent or viewed more than once, you must click to expand the list of times & dates. This QB update is very cumbersome & takes longer.
I have already left “feedback” about this feature being removed. I really hope the feature gets added back on. It is imperative that my company has this feature to quickly see if an invoice was sent &/or viewed & when. Just yesterday our accounting specialist said we may switch from QB to another company.
Could you at least explain why you made the change to invoice data? In what circumstance is it better? You spent resources on it so there must be a reason. It would make me feel better about the product if I thought you were doing it for us and not just for your own coding reasons.
WARNING: I am frustrated about this, and maybe a little angry. And when I'm frustrated (and maybe a little angry) I rant because I feel powerless and need to blow off some steam. I have been a user of Intuit products since the day they came out so I've been supporting this company for over 40 years and have seen it all. But this latest move in QBO (and QBD - read below) have taken the cake. So I apologize in advance for this lengthy volume, if you even want to take the time to read it.
I agree with all posters in this thread. It's ludicrous that you, QBO, would move things around like this, with absolutely no logical reason. You have created more steps to find information than there were before. You have broken links in every document that would have taken one click to drill down to what we need. (eg The fly-out thing on the right of the screen, a skinny little thing with a scroll bar inside it!) instead of just opening the invoice, when you know 99% of us will end up opening the invoice anyways?????) Every extra keystroke or mouse click takes more time and energy, which most of us don't have, when you multiply those extra keystrokes and clicks by thousands of times each day.
You have made navigating the program infinitely more complicated, not less by requiring us to go to too many places and menus to find what we used to be able to do with one or two clicks. I agree with the poster who asked, "Who is making these decisions?" Did your development team even think to conduct focus groups with actual users, people who use the software every day, to find out what they might think about these changes?
Honestly, it seems as though you have to make useless changes to the program just to validate your own existence on this newer, ridiculously expensive subscription model you are now following. Most of us are already over the barrel. We're already reluctantly resigned to paying your crazy prices because we all just want to get our jobs done and our investment in the program and our data is now hostage to your company because of some of your other ridiculous policies. Please just leave alone what customers are not asking for, and start paying attention to features that your customers are really begging for.
And don't get me started on how, beginning just this last week, I now have advertisements for QBO popping up on my Quickbooks Desktop screen!! With no "x" to close it, no way to get rid of it and when it finally does close after clicking all over the screen a few of dozen times, it pops up another window telling me that my data file is on a server and my option is to select OK to move it to my local machine. WTF!!???!! Your intrusiveness, as a company, into our businesses and our information has just gone too far.
And please stop parroting back the same response about using the Feedback tool. I think most QBO users are now quite familiar with it, not that it does any good to use it. In fact, when I now click on Feedback to give my thoughts to the development team, or so we're told they are, it freezes up the program and I must exit and re-start.
The Feedback link DOES. NOT. WORK. Neither physically nor practically.
PLEASE start listening to your customers and stop sending back your overwhelmingly banal responses to serious questions. At least read the question before responding to it. And I know you're taught to begin your posts on this forum with "I understand how difficult or frustrating this must be for you . . ." before you spout off your stock answer, that any of us can find in the help files or by doing online searches when we're trying to solve our own problems, if we're inclined to. The truth is, you really don't understand because your job is to monitor a forum and look up the same help articles that we all have access to. Your job is not to be financially responsible for businesses, large and small and all the pressures that come with it. So it's patronizing and insulting when you begin your responses that way. Your customers are business people and we're busy. We don't need to be placated by your "understanding". We just need answers, so cut to the quick.
Most of us only come to these forums because we've exhausted all other options of finding an answer. And it wouldn't hurt for you to give some assurances to your customers that you, yourselves, who are corresponding with customers all day long, would give some of our feedback to your own developers since it appears we cannot always do so ourselves due to technical issues with your own link being broken.
Rant finished (for now). This is only one topic. There are many more.
Have a good day.
@Rochelley Well said!! I thought I was the only one that had the problem of QBO freezing when I tried to open the feedback tool. I often have to close the program and start over--
