Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to us here in the Community. I'd be happy to help you locate and create a journal entry in QuickBooks Online.

Journal entries tend to be the last resort for entering transactions. You should use them only if you understand accounting, or you’re following the advice of your accountant. If you're not already connected to an accountant, you can find one in your area here: Find a ProAdvisor.

Journal entries can be used for a few different things, such as:

  • Enter debits and credits manually, like in traditional accounting systems.
  • Transfer money between income and expense accounts.
  • Transfer money from an asset, liability, or equity account to an income or expense account.

Here's how to create a journal entry:

1. Click the Create ⨁ icon and select Journal Entry.

2. Fill out the fields to create your journal entry.
3. Select Save and new or Save and close.

That's all there is to making journal entries in QuickBooks Online! I hope this helps get you back on track.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Cheers.

Hello

I am unable to locate how to enter a journal entry in Quick Books Online.  I have attached a screen show of my +New menu options and Journal Entry is not an option.

Can you help?

Hi there tallenDPI,

Being able to create a journal is essential to many business owners and I want to make sure that you're able to take care of this. Looking up your business name from screenshot, it appears you're using a US version of QuickBooks Online. Our US version of the program is a bit different from Canada's, so I want to make sure you have the appropriate troubleshooting information and answers to what's going on. For that reason, I'm going to get you in touch with the US team.

For the future, a great way to make sure you're in the area of community suited to your product is by checking the flag at the top of the community screen. If you see one that doesn't match your version of the program's country, simply click the flag to change it.

This time around, I'll get a US agent to reach out on this thread. Hang tight and someone will be with you shortly!

Hi there, @tallenDPI.

Nice to have you in the Community. I'm glad to help you locate where you can enter Journal Entries again.

With the new Online update, the option to change the view from Business to Accountant is present. The easiest way to get Journal Entries back is to change the view. You can do this by following the steps below:

  1. Select the Gear ⚙️, then Account and Settings.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Go to the Views section to edit, change the drop-down to Business View.
  4. After switching the view, choose the (+) New button again.
  5. Under Other, pick Journal Entry.

That's all there is to it! Now you can get back to business with ease.

If you have any other questions, just know I'm only a post away. Best wishes!

Thank you.  I did not realize there was a different "view" setting.
