reconciliation - mistakenly deleted an adjustment from a couple of months ago, and now can't find to fix

Hello!

I made a mistake a couple of months ago: I entered an adjustment when reconciling to make up for a check that got cancelled -- this enabled me to reconcile my checking account for April.

Then, in May, WF shows the funds returned -- so, in other words, I shouldn't have put the adjustment in at all, because the next month, the problem resolved itself (the cancelled check got credited back into my checking account).

Being the relative newbie that I am, I went into my Chart of Accounts and just deleted the Adjustment. But this has now unbalanced that month's reconciliation.

I see now that what I should have done was to just click the "R" by the Adjustment until it went blank, to remove it from reconciliation for that month. But now that I've deleted this adjustment, I can't do that, and that month is now off by the amount of the adjustment.

Is it possible for me to fix this? Or will I be stuck just explaining it to my accountant? Thank you so much in advance!!

Sue

Hello there, @SueTy.

Thank you for posting here in the Community. Allow me to help you with your reconciliation concern.

You can recreate the transaction in QuickBooks and manually mark it with the R symbol. If you're unsure of the details, I suggest you use the audit log feature.

It's a place where you can review changes made by all users in your account. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon in the upper-right corner.
  2. Select Audit log.
  3. Press Filter if you need make changes.
  4. Search for the adjustment, then hit View1.JPG
  5. Take note of the details. 2.JPG

I've also included some articles in case you need more ideas about the audit log feature, as well as reconciling an account:

Dear @AlcaeusF ,

I really appreciate your help! I haven't tried this yet, but what you say makes sense to me -- I'm glad there's a fix for this (and, I definitely wouldn't have thought to do this on my own).

Thanks again so much!
