Reconciliations. Can't figure out how to place a checkmark next to items on my bank statement. Should there be a checkmark box?

Where are you trying to place the check mark?  within the registrar or are you clicking on the matching items when reconciling?

Hey there, @delhomservicelea.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community.

You can check off the items using the bubble on the right side of the screen. Check out my screenshot below to use as an example.

However, if you're not referring to this portion of the reconcile, do you mind elaborating on what part you mean exactly?

I'm also including an article that covers how to reconcile in QuickBooks Online. This way, you'll be a pro in no time when it comes to reconciling your accounts.

Please let me know if you need additional help. I'll be here to help you every step of the way. You can reach out to the Community at any time. Take care and enjoy the rest of your day!

Reconciliations. Can't figure out how to place a checkmark next to items on my bank statement. Should there be a checkmark box?

Hey Tori,

I have the same problem.  My view of bank rec ends with the word "payment".  There isn't a bubble to check if reconciled, so my balance is off.  What am I missing?

Hello, lfinney.

Let's perform some troubleshooting steps so we can check if this is related to your browser or not.

There are times that the browser is full of frequently accessed page resources, causing some unusual responses. We can start by accessing your account in a private browser. This mode doesn't save your searches, visited pages, log in details, and cookies.

  • Google Chrome, press CTRL  Shift
  • Mozilla Firefox: press CTRL  Shift
  • Safari: press Command Shift

Once you're in the Private / Incognito Window, sign in to your QuickBooks account, and check your account if a bubble icon appears. If it works, then you can go back to your original browser and clear the cache. Alternatively, you can use other compatible browsers. It could be that the one you're currently working on has a temporary issue with QuickBooks.

You can refer to these articles for your future guidance and detailed steps in reconciling your account in QuickBooks:

I know EXACTLY what you mean! Very frustrating!  Sure seems like a bug to me.

My workaround:

Near top of screen during reconciliation when there is no checkbox:

"Chart of accounts > Bank register > Reconcile"`

Click on "Bank register"

Then click on "Reconcile" button

THEN checkboxes appear along right side where they should have been in the first place!

This short cut (ctrl+shift+N) no longer works in Chrome. It just opens a new chrome window. HELP!

Thanks for becoming part of the Community, balancedbookkeepingsolutions4u.

You're utilizing your keyboard shortcut properly from the sound of it. When using Google Chrome, clicking your CTRL + SHIFT + N keys at the same time will open a new incognito window.

I've included an image showing how this process looks:

You can also open private browsing sessions from your Vertical Ellipsis (⋮) icon.

I am very familiar with reconciling but on the debit side of the reconciliation screen there is a box with a check in it. I accidentally checked it and it put the oldest checks at the bottom of the screen and I tried to uncheck it and it will not go back to the original way that I like it. Oldest at the top and not moving them to the bottom when I check them off. How do I go back to normal screen

I'll be happy to help change the order of your checks, @Sammie2021!

You can click the DATE column letting the arrow pointing upward while working with your reconciliation. This way, it'll change the order of your checks, listing the oldest at the top. I'm adding a screenshot below for your visual reference.

I'd be glad to jump in and help with your reconciliation-related concern, HOCKEY MOM.

The section where you can see the blue check mark is in the right-most part of the Reconcile window.

If you can't still see it, follow the steps in this article to make sure that you see all areas of QBO: Unable to See the Entire Page in QuickBooks Online

I'll work with you to resolve this account register error you have in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @KanakaG. This way, you can place the appropriate status of your transactions under the checkmark ✔ column.

This account register display error can sometimes be caused by the browser's collection of data over time from frequent page visits. To isolate this matter, you can perform some troubleshooting steps.

You can start by pulling up your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private browser (incognito). Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome)
  • Ctrl Shift (Firefox)
  • Control Option (Safari)

Once signed in, go to the Chart of accounts page to view your credit card account's register. Then edit the status of your transactions. You can refer to this article for the detailed steps: Find, review, and edit transactions in account registers in QuickBooks Online.

If your account register displays the box where you place a C or an R in to show the transaction's status, return to your default browser and clear its cache. This will refresh the system and remove older data that causes viewing and performance issues. However, if this matter continues, I'd recommend using other supported browsers.

In case the issue persists after performing the troubleshooting steps above, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care team. They can create a case to initiate a product investigation and identify the cause, then guide you with a fix. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QBO company.
  2. Go to the Help (?) menu.
  3. Select the Search tab.
  4. Click the Contact Us button.
  5. Enter a brief description of your concern in the What can we help you with? field.
  6. Select Continue.
  7. Choose a way to connect with us (Send a message or Get a callback).

Also, to further guide you in doing or fixing a reconciliation in QBO, I'd recommend checking out this article: Learn the reconcile workflow in QuickBooks.

Let me know in the comments if you have other reconciliation concerns and questions about managing transactions in QBO. I'm always ready to help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @KanakaG.

Thank you for this work around for the reconciliation issue!  Much faster and easier than the recommendation from the QB advisors to go incognito and clear your cache.  Their “solution” is very annoying when you just want to get your work done.
