Join nowWe are a design firm that uses a different billable hourly rate for different employees depending on role, education, experience, etc. I would like to produce a report for each of our projects that shows the estimate compared to the value of hours worked (hours x billable hourly rate). Other reports show the estimate compared to costs. I don't want to compare to costs only the value of hours worked. Can anyone help with this or point me in the right direction?
Thanks
Hi there, @s_ea.
Thank you for reaching out to the Community. We can run Payroll Summary to view the hour and its hourly rate of the employees. Let me show you how:
Once done, you can go back to the Payroll summary report and view to double-check it.
I've added this article to guide you on how to modify the reports: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.
That's it. If you need further assistance don't hesitate to click the Reply button. I'll be here anytime you need me. Have a great day!
We want to show the value of total hours worked (hourly billable rate x hours worked) and compare that to each estimate we prepare for each project (job). And be able to show this on one report and show all of our projects (jobs).
I have a different report you can use to get the specific details you need, @s_ea.
Based on your scenario, it looks like you're using timesheets for the hours worked and billable time of your employees. With this, let's run and customize the Time by Name report. That way, you'll be able to compare between the total hours worked and the estimate for each project. Also, you can view all your jobs in one report. I'll guide you how.
The screenshot below shows you the last five steps. For detailed instructions, see the Create a report that shows timesheet data section through this article: Create And Print Timesheets.
Once done, click Memorize to save its current customization settings. Doing so will help you quickly access the report in the future. I've attached a screenshot below on how the report looks like. For more information, visit this article: Create, Access, And Modify Memorized Reports.
I'm just a post away if there's anything else you need. Enjoy the rest of your day, @s_ea.
Thanks but this is not getting the report I am trying to get to. Here is an example:
Project A: We create an estimate/proposal for the Concept Design of $10,000
Employee #1 is billed at $100/hour. Employee #2 is billed at 150/hour
Employee #1 spends 20 hours on Project #1. Employee #2 spends 30 hours on Project #1
I would like a report that shows:
Project A Estimate Value (hrs x billable rates) Difference
Concept Design $10,000 $6500 $3500
Project B......
Hi there @s_ea,
In QuickBooks Desktop, we don't have a column for the difference for the report. However, you can export the statement to excel and manually calculate the difference for each employee.
You can follow the steps provided to my colleague RaymondJayO and once done, you can export the report. Here's how:
Once done, you can manually calculate the difference in your excel file.

Export what report? It doesn't appear as though you have a report that can calculate the value (hour x billable rate) so what is there to export?
Hello there, s_ea,
The export the custom report provided by my colleague RaymondJayO. Then manually calculate the value of the hour and billable rate.
Just follow the steps provided above on how to export.

It's absolutely no use to me if I have to manually calculate anything. It seems remarkable that QB cannot produce such a report.
