Report issue when migrating from QB Desktop to QB Online

I've delayed the migration to QBO for several years because, as a CPA, I've just not been satisfied with the same level of functionality as the desktop version. But alas, I was finally forced to convert.

One frustrating thing I've noticed is missing data in the transaction reports. For example, the P&L correctly reports our revenue line items, but when I double-click the line item amount, the transaction detail has the individual names blank. Those are not coming through on the report.

Is this a back-coding engineering issue? I tried calling the help line since I'm still within my initial 60 days of migration, but they said they would "look into it". I haven't heard back.

I appreciate your decision to convert your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) data to QuickBooks Online (QBO), @Nonprofit CEO-CPA. Let me share some information about how your reports are reflected in QBO.

QBO and QBDT are unique platforms that have distinct ways of reporting your transactions. Accrual basis reports in QBO will match your QBDT reports. Cash basis reports may not match.

If your transaction detail shows individual names blank in QBO, you can modify the information manually. I understand that this can take extra time and effort for you to edit the transactions by hand. If you wish to ease the process, you can always look for a third-party application that supports the process.

Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QBO account.
  2. Go to the Apps menu, Find Apps.
  3. Start your search from there.

You can run through the resources from these articles to get to know more about how your data are imported to QBO:

To get started with QBO, you can also check out the resources from this link: Getting Started With QuickBooks Online.

Thank you for trying to help. I did click on the transaction and the "blank" area to view the name of the company/individual who gave us the revenue. I then manually filled in all the blanks for the profile of that individual/company. This still didn't pull over the name in the transaction report. I updated another dozen names just to see if that was an isolated incident. Nope. I cannot for the life of me get the names to pull over.

After further trouble shooting, the issue seems to be tied to multiple line deposits. It's a coding thing in thet program that only engineering can fix.

While there is a workaround by customizing the report each time it runs (add in columns for customer and vendor), thre transaction report does no good to memorize it since the P&L will always revert back to the default transaction report.

I submitted a suggestion in the feedback portal, but the engineers won't address unless there's enough votes.

I have the same exact issue.  I have 5 years worth of data, manually updating line by line will be impossible because there are thousands of lines.  If I get audited and I cannot see WHO deposited me money because the name field is blank, I have a problem.  How is this still not fixed?  I am advising my clients not to migrate until this is resolved.  I am also cancelling and going back to desktop.  This is 101 and developers should fix it.
