Report Manipulation

I've had to do a clean install again because QB's was giving me the same error code.  Windows has stopped working or something.  I don't remember the code.

Anyway, with this new install, I can no longer manipulate the report in re: to the width of the columns.

I've tried over and over again.   What happened?

On another note, when I clicked on Help, Support was no longer in the drop down.

I'm not sure what else is missing or changed at the moment.

Report Manipulation

Hello there, AZEmbroiderer.

When you adjust the width of the columns, make sure that you hover your mouse to the 3 dot line.

In the meantime, to view help support. Let's perform some troubleshooting steps to check if this is a possible data issue. To get started, let's ensure your QuickBooks is updated to the latest release: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

If you're getting a similar issue, let's do the Rebuild Data tool that can resolve minor and common data issues.

Here's how:

  1. Rebuild your data
    1. Go to the File menu.
    2. Select Utilities.
    3. Choose Rebuild Data.
    4. Click on OK.
    5. Follow the prompts to save a backup. Note that if your cursor is still moving despite the prompt “QuickBooks is not responding”, the rebuild is still ongoing.
    6. Select OK when you see Rebuild has completed.
  2. Verify your data
    1. Under Quickbooks File menu, select Utilities.
    2. Choose Verify Data.
    3. Select OK if there are no problems detected.
    4. If Verify finds an issue with your data, you will be prompted to Rebuild Now or View Errors.
    5. Click Rebuild Now.

You can check out this helpful article for your reference: Resolve data damage.

To learn more about getting the data you need, check this out: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop. This article will help you filter reports just the way you want it.

Please keep me updated on how this works. I want to make sure everything is taken care of.

Report Manipulation

Hi Grace,

We just did all of what you have listed last week a couple of times since QB's kept shutting down and then wouldn't open at all.  I shouldn't have to continually run a Rebuild every time I open or close QB's??

I've also just noticed that I don't have a Refresh button so it took me going thru my email to get to your answer.  I don't have any notifications that there is an answer where my name and avatar are in the right corner.

I don't see a Back button either.

I've also got my Open Invoice report open and I cannot click on the invoice in this report so that it opens the actual invoice.

I think I'm going to discover many issues as I get more into my every day work that happened when we did the Rebuilds, etc and Clean Install.

Report Manipulation

Welcome back to the Community, @AZEmbroiderer.

I appreciate sharing with us what you've tried to resolve the issue. You should be able to open reports smoothly after following the resolution shared by my colleague.

Based on the details shared, we’ll have to perform more in-depth troubleshooting steps to resolve the crashing issue. I have to gather sensitive data to verify the account and access the company file.

Since the security of your information comes first, I recommend you get in touch with our Technical Support Team. One of our agents can open the data file in a secure environment.

They also have tools to determine why QuickBooks shuts down when running reports. Once the solution is available, our support specialists will help apply the permanent fix.

Here’s how to reach them:

  1. Click on the Help icon at the top menu bar to select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. When the Have a Question window opens, scroll down to choose the Contact us link.
  3. This will display the Contact Us screen.
  4. Tap the Search for something else link and type the issue or topic in the field box.
  5. Press the Search button to display the Get Phone Number or Start a Message button.

For future reference, see the Unrecoverable Error: General Troubleshooting Steps article. It contains a list of common error codes/messages as well as instructions on how to fix them.

Keep me posted if you need assistance while working in QuickBooks. I’ll be right here ready to help. Have a good one.
