How can I add Sidenotes for each report account line (or Footnotes) on an account line item level to explain year to year or budget variances?
thanks
Hi ccm3!
I also like the idea of putting comments on reports especially when there are amounts that need a bit of explanation.
The good news is QuickBooks has a feature called Comment on report, where you can create footnote comments on any amount. If a certain line has many amounts, each of them can have its own comment. To do this, just click the said feature (button) on the report page, and you can click the comment icons to add a note.
On the other hand, you can also check about customizing reports for your additional reference.
I'm just right here if you need more help. Take care and enjoy the rest of the day!
I am running Quickbooks online. When I click a number in the report, it opens the page for the item detail. i.e. if it was a bill, it presents the bill page rather than a comment page. What do you mean by "button"
I'll do my best to make things clear for you, @rweil55. Typically, users can leave their thoughts, feedback, or responses on the comment page. On some platforms, you may need to sign in or provide some information (like your name and email address) before you can post a comment. Let me shed some light on the comment page and the button you meant in QuickBooks Online.
The screenshot shared above is the feature available in QuickBooks Desktop only, and the option comment page isn't present in the QuickBooks Online version.
Since you mentioned you're using QuickBooks Online, here's a workaround to add a side note or footnote in the reports tab.

Thanks for the quick response.
It is a bummer that online does not have all the features of the desktop.
Yes, I can do it via an after-edit, but I was looking for something that would not require an after-edit each time the report is generated.
