Running a report to show specific items on our invoices.

We run a small business doing jobs in customer's homes. Most of our work is billed at cost plus.  I would like to know how to run a report that shows us how much we billed for each individual item on our bills over the year to try to find profit leaks and areas we could improve our billing process, for instance, dump fees, how much did we spend on dump fees for the year according to what we invoiced for as opposed to what we actually paid, etc... Since when we pay it it goes into one category, but when we bill it, I am billing it under invoices, I want to try to find a report I can run that will allow me to search for a specific Item across all our invoices for the year. Thanks for the help.

Running a report to show specific items on our invoices.

I know how important it is to be able to use QuickBooks Online (QBO) capabilities with ease, and I appreciate that you are looking for ways to make it work, @SantiamDrywall, and I'm here to assist you in running a report that displays every line item on your invoices.

To start with, we can generate the Sales by Product/Service Detail report that displays your sales, grouped by product or service. This report includes the date, transaction type, quantity, rate, amount, and total.

Alternatively, we can use the Sales by Product/Service Summary report, which provides your sales data for each product or service. This report includes the quantity, amount, percentage of sales, and average price.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu on the left panel.
  2. This will open a page that lists all reports available in QBO.
  3. Choose the Standard tab and scroll to the Sales and customers section
  4. From there, double-click on Sales by Product/Service Detail or Product/Service Summary report to view the complete details.

I've included these screenshots for your visual reference; however, the names listed are merely examples and are not actual.
