sales by item report

I'm using Quickbooks Desktop. I'm trying to generate a report on sales of a couple items. I'd like to see how many of those items I sell - and then to generate reports over different time periods.

I can get close to what I want with the "Sales by Item Summary". This report is great - except I'm looking to get rid of some of the columns in the report. i.e. I just want to see the "Qty" column, I don't want to see "Amount", "% of Sales" or "Avg. Price". I'd then love to be able to compare different years.

I understand I could export this to excel, then delete or hide the columns I don't want, but that seems like silly work around. Quickbooks should be able to generate a report to tell me how many of a given item I have sold, without all that other info, right?

thanks for your help with this...

I appreciate your detailed information, Krg1. You can modify the columns of your reports to show only the Quantity of each item. Let me walk you through the steps.

In QuickBooks Desktop, you can consider running the Sales by Item Detail report to ensure the Quantity (Qty) column is displayed. To do these:

  1. Go to Reports from the menu bar and click on Sales
  2. Choose Sales by Item Detail report. Then, click the Customize Report icon.
  3. From the Modify Report: Sales by Item Detail, go to the Display tab.
  4. Uncheck all other columns from the Columns section and make sure to select only the Qty option.
  5. Review all details and click OK.

Once done, you can export this specific report for every period you want to acquire. Doing so will help you track entries separately.

Moreover, you can utilize this guide to help you save all the customizations made on your reports: Create, access, and modify memorized reports.

With the information provided, you'll be able to track quantities of every item and manage your overall sales transactions. If you have any further questions, I'll be around to assist you further.

Thank you.

Unfortunately this is a half solution. Yes it give me a report that shows the total, how do I get monthly columns? This report just gives me one long column, with all the sales, and totals. I guess I could run a report for each month, but that seems crazy.

What I'd like is something like this -

in 2024

In Jan I sold 2 'A' widgets,3 'B' Widgets and 0 'C' Widgets

In Feb I sold 3 'A' widgets,5 'B' Widgets and 12 'C' Widgets

etc...

The Sales by Item Summary is so close - I just want to get rid of some columns....

I recognize the significance of a report that displays the monthly total quantity of items sold in a single column, @krg1. Currently, the option to do this in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) isn't available.

In this case, I recommend submitting your feature suggestion to our Product Development Team. They'll review your suggestion for further consideration. Here's how you can send one:

  1. Locate the Help option.
  2. Choose the Send Feedback Online option.
  3. Select the Product Suggestion option. A pop-up window displays. Enter your feedback suggestion.
  4. Click the Send Feedback button.

I understand that exporting reports to Excel may be somewhat challenging, but at the moment, this is the only available method to modify the columns of your reports according to your preferences.

Once you have customized your reports, you can print them or save them as PDFs. Additionally, you can now print financial reports with gridlines to enhance readability.

I'm here to help with any additional questions about modifying the columns in your reports. Feel free to ask in the comments, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
