Sales tax has been linked to wrong chart of account how can I change that

Thank you for reaching out here in the community. Let me help to get this sorted out so you could get back to business, @evma.

 

If you create a transaction by mistake in QuickBooks Online, you'll have to start deleting the invoices and recreating them. Feel free to check out this article for the detailed steps and information: Create invoices in QuickBooks Online.

 

Before doing so, you may need to use a different income account for your product or service item and make sure your company has an accurate record of your transactions.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Go to Settings ⚙ and select Products and Services.
  2. Find the item and select Edit.
  3. From the Income account▼ dropdown, choose the account you want to use.
  4. Note: Can't see the account? Make sure the account's detail type is Sales of Product Income.
  5. Select Save and Close.

Additionally, sales taxes are automatically assigned to their default payable account upon set up. If you need to move the sales tax amount to another account in the Chart of Accounts (COA) you can create a Journal Entry (JE).
