Hello,
I am using Intuit QB Enterprise Solution 22.0 and encountering an issue when exporting the physical inventory worksheet.
If there are too many serial numbers (SN#), the Excel export may not display all the SN# and instead show '...'. Is there a way to configure this to ensure that the exported report shows the complete list?
Thank you in advance for any assistance or guidance.
Hi, @Alison95. I'm here to ensure you'll be able to export the Physical Inventory Worksheet report with a complete list of serial numbers.
When exporting reports from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to Excel, the display of serial numbers may be affected by Excel's formatting even if it shows completely in QBDT. You notice that serial numbers are truncated and end with an ellipsis (...), which is typically in result of Excel's configuration. As a workaround, you may need to expand the Serial Number column to see its full length.
However, if the serial number still cuts off, you'll want to manually edit it in Excel.
I'm adding these articles in case you encounter problems when exporting future reports in QuickBooks:
Let me know in the comments below if you have additional questions about serial numbers in QuickBooks Desktop. I'll be around to provide the necessary help.
Hi Nicole,
Thank you for your response. I use Right Networks to log in to QB, so I first export the file in CSV format and then paste it into my local computer. I've calculated the character length of the serial numbers and found that the longest length is 99 characters, so I suspect QB may have character limitations (see reference article: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/printing-preferences/character-limita...
It's possible that the column containing serial numbers is being treated as the Job Description, which has a maximum of 99 characters. Is there another method to address this issue? Can we set the serial numbers as a Note Field(Maximum 4095 characters)?
Thank you for coming back to this thread, @Alison95. I appreciate your detailed response.
I want to assist you here promptly. However, a feature to set the serial numbers as a Note Field in QuickBooks Desktop is currently unavailable.
With this, I encourage you to submit feedback. The good thing is QuickBooks values feedback and appreciates our customers like you.
Here's how:
Additionally, you can try exporting your data with the serial numbers into a separate field (e.g., a custom field labeled Serial Notes) and create a separate spreadsheet or document where you can manually enter more detailed information related to each serial number.
Furthermore, you can check out this article to learn how to memorize reports: Create, access, and modify memorized reports.
Let me know if you have further queries about your report or any QuickBooks-related concerns. Keep safe.
