I don't think QuickBooks will let you do it.
Generally, the sales tax feature depends on the use of the correct sales tax item, where you create an used enough items for your reporting needs. For example, in-state (taxable) and out of state (non taxable), or perhaps multiple out of state items, one for each state you ship to.
Then you can use the built in sales tax reports to see the sales by that detail, whatever detail you need for your sales tax reporting.
