No you can't convert any of template form. You have to create them from scratch on QBO.

Welcome to the Community space, @BRIAN. I'll be glad to share information about importing invoice templates from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

The feature to import an invoice template from QBDT and use it in your QBO account is currently unavailable. In QuickBooks Online, you can import the following information:

  • Bank Data
  • Customers
  • Vendors
  • Chart of Accounts
  • Products and Services
  • Invoices

For more information about importing data to QuickBooks Online, see this article: Common questions about importing data to QuickBooks Online.

For the time being, you'll need to create an invoice template manually within your QuickBooks Online account. To do so, follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Click on the Gear icon located at the top right-hand corner of the screen.
  3. Select Custom Form Styles.
  4. Click on the New Style button and choose Invoice.
  5. Customize your template by adding your company logo, changing the font and color scheme, and adding any relevant fields (e.g. payment terms, due date)
  6. Click the Preview PDF, then Done.

For detailed instructions about creating invoice templates together with other sales forms, open this link: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

While the option to import invoice templates is unavailable, I'd suggest sending feedback to our product development team. We also make changes and adjustments based on user feedback.

Here's how:

  1. Select the Gear icon⚙, then Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions. Then choose Next to submit feedback.

I've also included some articles that will assist you in creating invoices and understanding how data appears in your QBO account after switching from QBDT:

If you need any further instructions or have additional questions on how to manage your sales forms in QBO, please don't hesitate to let me know by tapping the Reply button. I'll be here to assist you. Have a great day.

Hello there, sales-thesweetma.

I'll walk you through how to export your custom invoice template from QuickBooks Desktop.

You can follow the steps below to export those templates. Here's how:

  1. From the Lists menu, select Templates.
  2. Select the template you want to export.
  3. Click the Templates ▼ dropdown, then Export.
  4. Verify the file name and choose the location of the file on your computer.
  5. Hit Save.

In addition to that, please know that we're unable to import an invoice template from QBDT and use it in your QBO. In the meantime, you'll want to follow the recommendation provided by my colleague, JoesemM, above to create an invoice template manually within your QuickBooks Online. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon at the top right-hand corner of the screen.
  2. Select Custom Form Styles.
  3. Click on the New Style button and choose Invoice.
  4. Customize your template by adding your company logo, changing the font and color scheme, and adding any relevant fields (e.g. payment terms, due date)
  5. Click the Preview PDF, then Done.

This article can give you more information about personalizing your sales forms in QBO: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

Also, if you haven't yet, this would be a great time to send this suggestion to our Product Development Team so they might consider adding this feature in future product enhancements. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon and choose Feedback.
  2. Enter your feedback Suggestion.
  3. Press Next.

Then, you can visit our Feedback forum to track the progress of your feature request.

I'll be adding this great resource to know how your books moved when migrating from QBDT to QBO: Learn how features and data move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

If you need more help with your invoices or custom forms, feel free to comment below. I'll be standing by for your response.

@sales-thesweetma

There is no QB Desktop 2023 or 2024 South Africa version.

You only have 2 options: QB Desktop 2023 or 2024 US version or Canadian version.

You can use any of those option and use Rand as the home currency.

Open your company file and hit CTRL 1 keys. Does it say QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus or Premier Plus?

Hi you showed me the steps on how to export templates because I asked how to export an invoice template from desktop to online .

Then you immediately tell me that I cannot use it on the online version . Please explain how that will help me ?

I know how to create a template online however it is very restricted due to the margin settings which makes it impossible to print on A5 landscape so that it is readable .

You can't convert any form from QB Desktop to QB Online. You have to create the template from scratch.

There was QB Desktop South Africa version. Now they only offer QB Online South Africa version

https://quickbooks.intuit.com/za/

If you're using QB Desktop Pro Plus, you're probably using the QB Online US version, not South Africa version. You have to make sure of it.
