Time by Job Summary Report

I want a report that shows estimated hours vs actual hours on a job.

When I enter the Proposal in for a new client I enter the following (as an example)

Item     Qty    Rate

Demo            1        $2000.00  (this is the subcontracted amount that we will charge the client)

Supervision  80      $7200.00 (this is the estimated hours for supervision)

When I run the time by job summary report it shows the (1) for demo and... say 40 (actual hours that employees have worked) on the report.

How do I get rid of the (1)'s?

The report makes it look like we have more hours than we actually do.

Time by Job Summary Report

Hi rhondap2350!

Welcome to QuickBooks Community. Let me assist you in running the Time by Job Summary report.

It seems that you added the Demo as a job. You can filter the report and simply don't include the Demo. You can follow these steps:

  1. Pull up the Time by Job Summary report and click the Customize Report button.
  2. From the Filters tab, search and select Customer:Job on the filters section.
  3. Under Customer:Job drop-down, click Multiple customers/jobs and select the jobs you want to include on the report. Don't add the Demo.
  4. Tap OK twice to refresh the report.

You can check this link: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop. This will show you how to use the filters when running a report to get the right data.

Also, you can check this article on how to track the expenses for a job: Tracking job costs in QuickBooks Desktop.

No, Demo is not a job.  It is a line item on the Estimate as is the Supervision line.

Thank you.

Time by Job Summary Report

Hey there, rhondap2350. Thanks for getting back to us.

To get this sorted out, you can double-click the displayed hours on the report and delete the entry or line item from there.

I recommend customizing the report to get the specific details you need. You can also memorize it to save its current customization settings. It serves as your record and helps you quickly access it for future use.

Don't hesitate to let me know if I can be of additional assistance. I'm always here to keep helping. Have a good one!

Time by Job Summary Report

I would also like a report that shows estimated hours vs. actual hours.  This is something we would like to give our project manager so she can evaluate if jobs are on track with how the job was estimated.  The best I can do is the Time by Item Report and customize it by 1.selecting the job we want to look at 2. Display Time Grouped by: Time by Item by Job and 3. Add subcolumns for: Estimated.  This doesn't total anything and is very limited in customization.  It's the best I've found so far.  If anyone has had more sucess with finding a solution, please help!
