Is there any way to generate a report that shows a history of total sales per item INCLUDING the open orders that were pending at the time? The report that generates right now will only show the items that have already been invoiced, but we need to see a total number of all orders that have been placed...not just paid for.

I'll be sharing some insights about generating a report that shows the history of total sales per item, including pending open orders in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
To view a report displaying the historical total sales per item, you can run a Sales by Item Detail report and customize it according to your desired date. You can also run and customize the date of Open Sales Orders by Item report to view the open sales order transactions.
Moreover, please note that the report will only display the current open sales orders. Once a sales order is invoiced, its status changes to closed, and it will no longer appear in the report.
Therefore, it is not possible to generate a report for closed sales orders in QBDT. However, you can run a Transaction History report to check the Sales Order that was closed. Here's how:

Thanks but I was already aware of the Sales by Item Detail report, but that only shows the orders that have been invoiced already. Is there no way to see every sales order that was generated during a certain time period? It really shouldn't be this hard.
There's no way to view the sales order generated in a certain period, Danielle. You'll want to send a request to our developers.
The system automatically updates the record as the orders are settled or invoiced. That's why running a report detailing a history of total sales per item with the pending ones is unavailable.
I recognize the convenience of pulling a report that generates those POs at a specific time. Since this is currently available, I recommend sending this idea to our Product Development Team. They will review it and may consider implementing depending on the no. of the user's request.
