transferring multi class entries from one bank account to another

We are not generating our payroll checks from our QB.  We do, however, have to make the entries in the register.  When entering 30 entries for the one PR transfer from regular account to PR account amount, they are split to different classes.  We then have to also add an entry for the checks going out from the payroll account- these need to be split also.  We can recreate in the register the splits from the regular account to the payroll account (copy & paste last one & change amounts) but not from the payroll out.

Is there another way of doing this that is the logical way of doing it?   Thanking you for any and all help! L

transferring multi class entries from one bank account to another

I appreciate posting your class entries concern in the Community, Laperna. I'm here to share another way of transferring them from one bank account to another.

In QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), you can create a Journal Entry to move funds between bank accounts with their respective classes. Before doing so, I highly advise contacting your accountant to be guided, as this involves adding and reorganizing your records and books in QBDT.

If you don't have an accountant, you can find one by visiting this webpage: Find a QuickBooks ProAdvisor.

Here's how you can create a Journal Entry:

  1. Choose Company at the upper panel Menu.
  2. Go to Make General Journal Entries.
  3. Enter the necessary information needed.
  4. Once done, Save & Close

For additional information about creating a Journal Entry and its grounds upon making, you can check out this article: Create a journal entry in QuickBooks Desktop for Windows or Mac.

Additionally, you might also want to visit this material if you are ready to reconcile your accounts in QBDT: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop.

Don't hesitate to return to this post and create a thread if you have additional questions about transferring your multiclass entries between banks in QBDT, Laperna. The Community is always here to answer your queries.

Thank you Irene,

That was my thought also, entering as a journal entry.  My coworker, who handles the PR, decided that she was just going to leave it as a single entry not broken down by class.  If there is a question, we can always refer back to the original amount in the operating account (which is broken down by class) before it's transferred into the payroll account.  I appreciate the reply.
