Using classes

We have a service organization that is currently using QBD Enterprise and QB Time. We have our customers set up with jobs. We are not using payroll in QBD. We use the time for billing customers. We are about to convert to QBO. I would like to be able to enter the manager for each job/project and run reports based on this. Should I add the managers as classes or is there another way of obtaining what I'm looking for?

Using classes

Let me share some insights on how classes work, TonyaRSB.

You can add them as classes and assign them to the transactions. This way, you'll have a clearer picture of the billable time when running reports. Here's how to turn on the class tracking feature:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Account and Settings.
  3. Go to the Advanced tab, then select the Categories section to edit.
  4. Select Track classes, then turn on the Warn me when a transaction isn't assigned a class option.
  5. Under Assign classes, choose One to entire transaction or One to each row in transaction.
  6. Select Save, then Done.

Next, set up your class list. to represent the managers. Once done, you can start to organize your transactions and run your reports by class.

To learn the different tips and tricks in using classes, you can read this article: Get started with class tracking in QuickBooks Online.

I'm just a post away if you have any other concerns or fllow-up questions about this topic. Have a great rest of the day.
