Voiding a check from a closed period

First of all - this is the most bizarre thing I've ever seen in an accounting software.  I'm not sure in what world this function makes sense at all, or how it's managed to last this long.

So I see the "solution" is to create an offsetting deposit and then both can be cleared out the in current period.  This however can lead someone astray when looking at the history of said check.  A check that's cleared your bank account typically is one that also cleared the bank.  Your workaround here is to write VOID in the memo field which can only be viewed under certain circumstances.  For example if I click "Expenses" and pull up a given vendor - I'm not seeing that memo field and a quick glance at that "voided" check doesn't look any different than an active one.

I've been doing the "reverse the void in the original period, then reverse that entry in the current period" journal entry and it's tedious and creating unwanted clutter.  It works, and at least I can see much quicker in many different views/inquires that this check has been voided.  However I'm not happy with this option either.  Reality is I probably won't be until this is actually fixed by the developer ;)

Anyway end rant.....Does anyone have a better solution than either of the above?  And is there any hope for this nonsense to be fixed sooner or later by intuit/quickbooks???

This typically the way I do it, the concept is that clearing the check against the deposit is a register info entry and not necessarily indicative of bank clearing status.

as you noted this is  long standing issue in QB, I'm so used to it I forget about it.

developer response?  [uhhhh, highly doubtful]
