the text version is unnecessary and confusing.  We only want the pdf attached.  I see the Summary and Details option but I cannot select neither one.

Hello designkit11,

Currently, we're unable to remove the text version on an emailed estimates. I'd recommend sharing this idea to our Product Development Team. You can click the Gear icon and select Feedback.

Feel free to let us know if you need anything else.

This is still an issue unless someone has found a way around it. Anyone...?

Quite disappointing.  Resembles MS Dos?

I have similar experience. For some reason, estimates are emailed in plain text as opposed to invoices sent in HTML. it is a bad look. why does this happen and how do we rectify it? it is a weird inconsistency.

thank you

Thanks for joining in on the thread, MGH1.

You are right about the Estimate section of an emailed estimate. The system is using the Plain text. Setting the HTML on the Account and Settings won't take effect in this section because this is a system generated preview.

For now, we still don't have an option in QBO to change or remove this section when emailing the estimates. I'd recommend posting to our Intuit Developer Forum. We have engineers, developers, and fellow QuickBooks users that might be able to share their opinion regarding your concern.

  1. Go to this link and log in using your Intuit account: https://help.developer.intuit.com/s.
  2. Select QuickBooks Online under the What do you need help with? section.
  3. Click Ask a Question and enter the details of your concern.
  4. Click Ask.

Just like in the Community, your post will be displayed in the form and anyone with knowledge or idea about will join the conversation.

Let us know if you need anything else. Have a great day!

thanks for your reply. unfortunately the developer site has succeeded in flummoxing me. there seems to either be an endless loop of returning me to sign in pages, or forcing me to submit an app before I can complete account set up and access any of the help pages you reference.

1. I need to 'complete account set up' before I can access help pages (click here to continue)

2. I am sent to a developer dashboard. I select 'help' which then sends me back to the beginning, asking me to log in again.

must be some test that only developers can decipher?

best regards

I'm here to ensure you're able to access the "Help" references and post a question from our Intuit Developer Forum, @MGH1

Accessing the "Help" articles within our developer site doesn't require an account login. However, posting a question from there needs a complete setup for your Intuit credentials. The screenshot below serves as your visual guide. Since you're experiencing an endless loop of "Sign in" pages, the browser's stored cache may be full. I'm also unable to confirm if there must be some test that only developers can decipher, but I've got the steps to help resolve this.

I'd suggest opening the developer site using an incognito window. It doesn't store data in the cache, so this is a great way to help fix the issue. Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + P
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

Once opened, go back to the "Help" articles or click the Ask a question button. If this works, let's clear your main browser's cache, so it'll function efficiently. Otherwise, you can use a different browser to get the best and most secure experience with the program.

When your customer accepts the estimate, you can convert it into an invoice. Once done, the system will auto-reflect its status as Closed in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Just click the Reply button below if there's anything else you need. The Community and I will help you.

Agreed. It looks tacky. Plus my quotes are fixed price, not estimates.

Have spent all day setting up my quotes in QBO. Not overly impressed. Am going to see whether Xero is any better.

Idea?? I have been sending weekly estimates for years and never had this problem my clients can’t see any details it’s all in text with no details. If this is the new normal it will be a game changer for me.

You work for them... why can’t you notify your supervisor and get back to us with a solution??? If this doesn’t get fixed ASAP! I am done with QB.

Hi there, Cjw39.

In QuickBooks Online, you have the option to either send the estimate in plain text or attach a pdf file. It's possible that your estimate template has been changed that's why it showing text only.

You can follow these steps to check it:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Custom form styles.
  2. Locate the estimate template you're using and click Edit.
  3. From the Emails tab, make sure to check the PDF Attached. You can also select either the text is in Full details or Summarized details.
  4. Click Done to save it.

Before sending the estimate to your client, click the Customize button at the bottom part of the Estimate page. Then, make sure to select the correct template.

Once done, you can send a sample estimate to yourself to make sure everything's fine. You can also check this link for more details: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

Comment again if you need anything else. I'll be here!

That helped clean up the full text coming through but the message I send along is so small you can barely read it. Any suggestions?

Hello, @Cfoeger

Thanks for joining in on this thread. Allow me to give you some insight into customizing your estimate.

Having an option for a bigger font with the message you send along for the estimate would be very beneficial for every user of QuickBooks Online (QBO). However, you can only change the font on the form/estimate itself. Although this isn't available in your account, I'll send feedback to our Product Developers so they can consider this in a new release. They try to collaborate the information from every request to improve the system for every user.

You can check out our tutorials page for other features that are available in your account. In addition, review our QuickBooks Blog every once in a while to keep up with what's new in the product.

If you have any other feedback that you'd like to add just let us know. The Community is always here to have your back. Should you need any further assistance with anything else in your QuickBooks account, don't hesitate to ask. I value you and the success of your business. Have a wonderful evening!

Would love to know if there is now a fix for this, when emailing out an estimate; layout looks very messy with text estimate version right on top of the pdf version, any fix?

I'll take care of this query for you, @James1422.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), email options are currently exclusive for invoices. The option to change an estimate to HTML when you email it is unavailable. A workaround I can provide is to download the PDF version of your estimate, then send it to your customer using an email outside QBO.

Check out this article as well: Copy an estimate to a purchase order. You can use the steps from this article when you have an approved estimate from a customer, and you need to purchase those items from a vendor.

Feel free to drop a comment below if you have other questions about estimates in QBO. I'll be sure to get back to you. Enjoy the rest of the day!

This is absolutely ridiculous, These are basic things that should not need long discussions. I have just started trying out QB and I am so disappointed in this... The first thing a new customer sees from me is a quote... If there is no solution to this I will def opt out of QB

@Tillman33

Use another app to send  the Estimate and integrate it with your QBO, or explore another accounting app that suits your needs.

I totally agree!! I was appalled when I saw what the emailed estimate looked like (I bcc myself). This is completely unacceptable. Like you said, this is basic stuff we’re talking about….it’s 2021 for God’s sake!

I have also just discovered this! It is totally unnecessary, looks messy as op mentioned, and just looks unprofessional!! Any changes here yet - is there a way to fix & remove it?

Agree, when I emailed a estimate to a customer, they could not see details of the estimate. This is frustrating, the invoice does the same

Has this new formatting request for estimate email templates been considered by the dev team at all? It would be so nice if it looked like how invoices do when they send out. I had one estimate that randomly sent out with the same formatting as invoices with a link to accept the estimate and was excited, but then the next ones went through with plain text again. Here is the one that was formatted. Can I get them all to look like this?
