Thumbs up if you’d “like” to get more social media engagement! The crew at Bad Rhino, a media marketing agency* that works with small businesses like yours, shares some of their hottest tips for reaching your target market (and beyond!). Try them out and let us know how it goes!
1. Always use images. Posts with images receive more than twice as much engagement than those without. Keep a folder of professional-quality pix ready to post, or use stock photography if you don’t have a visual product (looking at you, accountants). Funny gifs or memes generate lots of looks, and user-generated pix are a great option, too -- just be sure to credit the original poster (see #9 below).
2. Hashtag it up. Using 15-20 relevant hashtags per Instagram/Twitter post is ideal. Stumped for ideas? Let’s say you’re a honey vendor at a farmers market in Seattle. You might use #honey #local #seattle #market #markets #bee #food and so on. Check out RiteTag for popular tag suggestions if you need fresh ideas.
3. Post when your audience is active. Posting right around lunchtime and right after work means your content will stand out and be seen. If you can’t post during these hours, don’t fret. Apps like Later and Postify (and many others) let you schedule posts for future sharing.
4. Create fun, friendly posts that generate real results. No one wants to read your sales pitch while scrolling through their social feed. Keep your posts lively and fresh while you constantly track engagement and conversion to actual sales.
5. Add tags to your Instagram profile. Now you can place clickable hashtags or @accountnames in your profile. They’re handy if you want to drive traffic to other accounts related to yours.
6. Work the stickers on Instagram. Those cute little stickers are more than emojis, they’re real attention-grabbers. Stick ‘em on your stories, and be sure to tag specific locations and relevant influencers.
7. On Facebook, know which posts to “boost” ... Look at your “Insights” dashboard to learn which post is resonating with your audience and getting lots of comments, likes or click-throughs -- that’s the one to boost.
8. … and which posts not to “boost.” Photos with text on them? FaceBook won’t touch these, so don’t bother. Also, never waste your money by boosting a post that direct-clicks to a website that’s not your own. (Read up on FB’s ad policy here to learn else what you need to know.)
9. Encourage fans to create social content for you. Share out your #cleverhashtag and ask fans to use it when they engage with your services or products. If you have a brick-and-mortar location, prominently display your #cleverhashtag. Run a contest or giveaway for the best post using your tag. Search your feeds for any use of the tags and be sure to “like” or respond -- it’s social media after all!

That's a great point, @Arismort! Are you finding that Stories is helping you build your business's Instagram presence more effectively than straight-up posts? Have you tried the new Questions Sticker?
Marketing is nice.

That's for sure, @Maquinapcitur! What's been your experience with social-media marketing? What's your favorite platform, and why do you think it's best suited for putting your business forward?
