Community Chatter: Favorite Charities for Giving Tuesday

According to their website, Giving Tuesday "is an opportunity for people around the world to come together through generosity in all its forms by sharing acts of kindness and giving their voice, time, money, goods, and advocacy to support communities and causes."  Knowing that everyone has different causes near and dear to their heart, I asked the team to share some of their favorite charities.

Morgan:

My favorite charity is St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I chose this charity as my favorite for a couple of reasons. First, because I believe there is life saving work being done there and secondly, I can't imagine how concerning it would be for your child to have to be a patient at St. Jude and the last thing any family that finds themselves in that situation needs to worry about is doctor bills or money for a place to stay. With charitable donations, families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food. If you're looking for a way to make a difference this Giving Tuesday consider donating to St. Jude. Any contribution, big or small, goes toward saving lives and that's pretty special!

Sasha:

I don't have just one charity I donated to. Since I am a shopaholic, most physical stores and even online ones lately have been asking if you would like to donate to their charity at checkout. This is the time I use to contribute to different organizations. How I see it is, if I can use my money to buy the things that I want, then I can use that same energy to help others in need or contribute to technological advances to make someone's life easier.

Kiala:

My favorite charity is probably one that everyone is familiar with, and also one that may hassle you on occasion:) The Red Cross is a great organization to give your time or money to, but they do much more than just take your blood. Other services include disaster relief, health and safety, international services, and youth preparedness. I believe in paying it forward and I love how now they tell you where your blood goes and how it helps.

Lisa:

Especially this time of year, I like to try and give locally so that I know that I am helping out others in my community.  Casa de los ninos was founded in the early 70's to protect children from abuse and neglect.  Since then they have expanded their programs to include not only support services for children in need, but mental and behavioral health treatments and numerous other programs.

Another great place to donate this time of year is your local community food bank.
