I was talking with some friends the other day about what we had been splurging on recently and I realized that if you had asked me the same question in 2019, I would have given a completely different answer. Splurging felt a bit different in the last year or so, but in many ways, giving ourselves that extra little care whatever form it may have taken, became something that helped get us through a rough year. It seems obvious but it never hurts to repeat - doing something nice for yourself shouldn't feel like an extravagance. And I am a firm believer in splurging when you can do so as a treat.
Back then, most of my splurges were travel related, but as we talked I became curious to find out what other people have been splurging on in the past year, and I put the question to my coworkers. Here are our responses.

In the fall of 2019 I was in Dallas with a friend to go to a hockey game. Since we had time to kill, we decided to wander the local farmers market/artisans collective. We definitely did our share to help the local small businesses, but one of the shops we came across was a candle shop that carried Jackson Vaughn candles. I promptly fell in love with their No. 11 Revival candle.
It was definitely more than I had paid for a candle before, but I loved the scent and look of the glass holder and knew it had to come home with me. It ended up having between an 80-90 hour burn time, and I loved it so much that in the past 14 months I splurged and bought it 2 more times through their website. And in the meantime I also began exploring the world of indie candle makers and am eagerly awaiting my latest splurge - a few horror movie themed candles which should be arriving this week.
I have always loved candles, but usually I just bought whatever I could find in the local big box stores that smelled pretty. Now that I am more confident, I look forward to future splurges - and a house filled with wonderful scents.

What is something I splurge on when I get the chance? This is a no-brainer. It is definitely food! Have you ever seen that meme when you just get paid at the end of the month, and your brain tells you, you want something nice to eat? Yep, guilty as charged!
I'm always down for home cook meals, but I usually take a week off and strictly go out to different restaurants around Florida. It doesn't have to be something fancy, but one or two times, if I'm feeling myself, I will. In fact, this week, I took a road trip to Deland, Fl, to this fantastic restaurant called Half Wall, where they serve one of the best burgers, in my opinion. Being out with company, enjoying good food with live music, and having fun is a bonus to my splurge because creating happy memories will last a lifetime.

When payday hits, you can find me wandering those internet streets for new skincare products. Maybe it's the age old quest for the fountain of youth, but I constantly get suckered into buying expensive skincare products promising to get me blemish free and flawless! My most recent purchase? Irish Sea Moss gel. You know when you're sitting at the beach and get a whiff of that old washed up seaweed? That's basically what this stuff smells like! It has the consistency of thick applesauce but it promises to load up your skin with tons of vitamins and squeeze your pores out of existence. I throw that stuff on my face every morning to get fresh smooth skin. I consider myself a very loyal friend and wife but when it comes to skincare....I'm always trying out new things! Oh and if you ask me about my skin care regimen, be prepared for a full debrief. :)
