Efficient Onboarding and Training

Hello again, friends! Thanks for joining us here in the Community for business discussion. Hiring new employees is exciting because it means your business is growing and you need some help! Today I want to share an article from entrepreneur.com that cover how to efficiently onboard and train your new hires.

"Great onboarding starts with excellent planning. You really can't wing it when it comes to training your new hires. Having planned training and processes for dealing with new employees is important. Before hiring any new employees, plan out what they need to know and how you deliver it."

Once you have your onboarding period prepared, here are a few ways to communicate it and make sure everything gets done:

Set up a dedicated onboarding calendar
Calendar apps come in really handy here. You have the ability to create multiple calendars, for all sorts of purposes, and one of those can be specifically designated for onboarding. This will allow your new team members to view their tasks, meetings, and training schedules.

Share your calendars
What good is a training calendar if nobody sees it? Sharing your calendar is the best way to coordinate with new hires. And the same goes vice versa. "If you both share your calendars, you can easily be more flexible, if needed, and quickly rearrange sessions if something else comes up."

Set up your to-do list
More than likely, your only job isn't onboarding recruits. When it's time to hire new people and that task gets added to your responsibilities, you'll want to set up a to-do list of priorities. This will help you maintain organization and efficiency.

Use time blocking to ensure you get everything done
Time-blocking is a tool you can use in your calendar to dedicate certain amounts of time to certain tasks. This organizational method breaks down your daily and weekly tasks in allotments of time, which is a great way to combine your calendar and your to-do list.

Start with a welcome pack
All of these points lead up to your new employee's official start date. When you have your calendar, to-do list, official training schedule, and reminders all set up, you're to welcome the new teammate. The article mentions some really great things to include in a welcome email: Include directions, parking information, and a building map marked by their office or area. Add in where they can find vending machines or a kitchen for snacks and drinks. Include any local shops, such as bakeries or sandwich shops for food.

There you have it! Just a few simple ways to make hiring new employees seamless and efficient. Check out the full article linked above for even more info. And while you're here, we'd love to hear your checklist for onboarding new members to your team!
