If you had a superpower, what would it be and why?

We're having fun with a lighter topic this week... superpowers!  Everyone has thought about it at some point, so we asked the Community team to tell us what powers they would love to have.

Imagine the scene: Halting time in the middle of a thunderstorm to touch the raindrops and admire the lightning frozen in the sky. Or slowing time to extend a long, fun weekend spent with family or friends. Even just an extra few minutes to enjoy my morning coffee is a superpower worth having to me!

For similar reasons, time travel is also tempting. Getting to relive happy or exciting moments, in my life or through history. But, I just don’t trust myself not to mess up the space-time continuum.

Every time this question comes up, I sigh. The limitation of one superpower comes with a constant back and forth of ‘what ifs.’ If I can fly, what if I need super strength? If I have x-ray vision, what if I need to make myself invisible to save the day? I also have to consider that nothing feels better to me than being of service to others, or the planet.

AdobeStock_308164122.pngIf I had a superpower it would be the power to learn literally anything in less than a minute.

Need help translating ancient languages? No problem. Anyone need someone to fly a plane? Give me a minute. Need help interpreting your dog’s bark? BRB. Need a Chess Grandmaster for some reason? BRT. And, much like Neo in The Matrix, if you need someone to learn the practice of all martial arts in less than a minute I’m your woman. Similarly, I can be your accountant, attorney, physician, and architect - just give me 4 more minutes.

I can already predict this superpower will grow as frightening as it is useful, as all the knowledge possible will not guarantee the ability to perform the tasks, or to apply it wisely. But, all superpowers are accompanied by a ‘what if’, which is why I have always loved superheroes. The heroic part is knowing how to manage responsibilities which accompany the power, and understanding every limitation. As a super-thinker, I’ll be able to help other superheroes with their own accidental shortsightedness. I believe most superheroes are best when they work with other superheroes. When it comes to the task of learning how to do anything in less than a minute, I can only hope I have a partner (or a league!) to help me save the day, just in case I need a little help from my friends, and especially if they need me.

AdobeStock_132352350.pngAs someone who was raised on a steady stream of SciFi tv growing up, I have always loved the idea of superpowers.  I used to regularly dream of being able to fly when I was younger, and who hasn't thought about what they would do with super strength or the ability to talk to animals?   But when I sat down to think about what I would really love to have, I quickly circled back to my SciFi roots and realized I want the power of teleportation.

I love to travel, and even though it is slow and I often want to just fast forward to the part where I am in a new place with my best friend ready to go exploring, I have realized that I truly enjoy the process of going to a new place.   The time to shed my day to day worries and focus on the next adventure that awaits me, the people watching in the airport, and the growing sense of excitement as the plane starts descending; I wouldn't give that up for the world.    BUT.  I hate the journeying home part of the trip, I begrudge every second of my vacation that I have to give up to traveling back home.   It seems to take so much longer than heading to vacation does, even though I know it doesn't really.  If I could teleport, then I could spend more time with my friend, more time learning more about the world, and then just pop back home without all the waiting and standing in line and wishing I were just home already.
