Managing Employees with Grace

With the holiday season coming up, it can be a stressful time for small businesses. Especially trying to meet the demands of increased retail sales and supply chain challenges and managing your team. Luckily, our QuickBooks Blog shared ways to help manage employees with grace during this hectic period by considering these seven tips. Let's dive in!coffee cup Banner template.png

  1. Set Clear Expectations and Respect Boundaries: Communicate any changes in schedules or priorities clearly, and respect your employees' individual holiday preferences and time off as much as possible.
  2. Strive for Fairness: Ensure fairness in work schedules, pay, and recognition to prevent employee resentment and maintain a positive work environment.
  3. Let Them Be Sick (and Get Well): Prioritize employee well-being by allowing sick leave and having backup plans for when employees need time to recover.
  4. Manage with Empathy and Compassion: Recognize that the holiday season can be emotionally challenging for employees, and offer support while respecting their boundaries.
  5. Know Your Team: Consider the diverse preferences of your team when making holiday plans, ensuring inclusivity and accommodating different needs.
  6. Change Up the Music: Avoid overplaying holiday music, as it can take a toll on employee mental health. Give employees control over the playlist and be mindful of the timing.
  7. Show Your Appreciation: Recognize your employees with small gestures of appreciation, such as gifts, cards, or public recognition, which can improve engagement and reduce turnover.

Do remember that managing during the holidays is about prioritizing your people, as their satisfaction and well-being are crucial for your business's success. I hope this is helpful and you are able to implement this. Until our next segment, be safe and take care!
