Tips From a Bookkeeper

Welcome back Community! I hope everybody is doing great today, and if you're not so great just remember it's a short week that ends with pie and that will most likely bring a smile to your face. I read a post shared on the QuickBooks Resource Center that was written by a bookkeeper and covered some helpful tips to keep in mind when it comes to bookkeeping for your own business.

Separate your personal and business bank accounts
Whether you're just getting started or are already an established LLC it's always a good idea to keep your business and personal accounts separate. Actually, if you are an LLC it's required to keep them separate. This protects your bookkeeper and allows for a clear spending trail in case of an audit.

Do your bookkeeping weekly
Bookkeeping is one of those things where if you don't do the small tasks regularly, they can pile up to create a big job. The bookkeeper mentioned in the article that "regular maintenance" is the most important tip she can give.

Consult a bookkeeper
You're the business owner. You wear enough hats as it is. Often times "bookkeeper" will be one of your titles. However, if you can't find the time to put into the regular maintenance as mentioned above, it might be time to consider investing in bookkeeping services.

Use accounting software
Like I said before, you're the business owner. You're so busy. Let someone, or something, get these bookkeeping tasks done for you. There's nothing wrong with delegating responsibilities. I happen to know a really great accounting software that I'd highly recommend *insert wink emoji*

I hope these pointers come in mind the next time bookkeeping becomes the topic of discussion. Maybe you're a bookkeeper yourself and on the tip giving side of this conversation. What expert advice would you add to the list? Let us know, we'd love to hear from you! I hope you all enjoy some good food an relaxation in the next few days. Take care!
