1099 NEC State Filing Requirements

I work for a logistics company.  We broker loads to truckers across the US.  My company is located in Louisiana. When preparing 1099-NECs for our vendors, should I put our LA state ID number in box 6 and amount paid to vendor in box 7, State Income, because that is where our company is located?  Or should I use the vendor's location and leave the box blank?

Thanks for reaching out to us, @Mandy25. Allow me to share information on what to enter in boxes 6 and 7 on the 1099-NEC forms.

 

The boxes 5 to 7 contain the state information. In box 6, you'll need to enter the abbreviated name of the state (LA) and your state identification number. In box 7, you may enter the amount of the state payment. I'll share this link from the IRS for the complete instructions: Instructions for Forms 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC.

 

Additionally, you can run reports in QuickBooks to help prepare your 1099s for your contractors.
