2023 1099 QuickBooks Online

Probably because they hopped on the AI bandwagon like everyone else. It's so frustrating these help bots don't actually address or answer the questions asked.

2023 1099 QuickBooks Online

I'm paying for my clients QBO subscription under my firm. They are not using QuickBooks Payroll. When I went to E-file their 2023 1099's, it wants to charge a one-time fee for E-Filing of $4 for the one 1099-NEC tax form that needs to be filed. However, it wants me to update the Name and Company Information, which automatically populated with the client's information, and then it wants a payment method on the next screen.

I don't want to provide my firms payment method, as I've seen it get stuck in client's QBO accounts before, and was not able to remove my credit card information for E-Filing 1099's in future years, even when they were not a client anymore. I don't want to update the name and company information because I think it's really asking for my firms information, but it's not clear. Why can't I just E-File the 1099 and have it automatically charged to my firm's payment method on file?

I understand the convenience of automatically adding your client's charges to your firm's payment method, Regina.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), we have to enter our billing info or the payment method every time we process payments to the different products. This allows the program to safeguard your personal information by verifying if the owner registered within the program did initiate the transaction.

That is not the concern or the question that I asked. My client is already on my firm's billing for their QBO subscription. They are not using QuickBooks payroll, they only have a QBO Plus subscription that my firm pays for and we already have our payment method on file for paying this client's subscription under our firm.

My concern is that I cannot E-file the client's 1099's today from within their QBO account without providing Company information that may or may not be for the client, even though the fields are automatically populating with the client's Company information, and I don't understand why the next screen is requesting payment information when my firm's payment information is already on file, and this client does not pay their own QBO subscription costs.

Over the past few years, there has been an Intuit error when E-Filing annual 1099's for a client whose subscription the QBOA firm pays for by requesting the entry of the firm's credit card to E-File Annual 1099's, and then having that credit card get "stuck" in the QBO Companies profile, and not being able to remove that payment method. I've opened up multiple tickets over the years for this issue.

I don't understand why I cannot E-File the 1099's and have my QBOA firm's payment method pay for that E-Filing and avoid the risk of having my firm's credit card entered into the client's QBO books? Please read the question and answer the question that is being asked.

Under the "File 1099's" Menu, within the Client's QBO account, after the step to "Preview forms", it's popping up a "Company Profile" box that has my name, the client's business name and address and is asking for a cell phone number to be filled in. It's asking for updated company information that is auto-populating my information and the client's mixed together. There is a message that says, "Almost there. Once you review your payment info and finish checkout, we’ll file your 1099s and email the account admin a payment receipt."

One, I can't get to the next screen for step 4 to "File" unless I update Company information that may or may not be the client's information. Two, I don't want to provide my firm's payment information on the next screen to E-File because it can get stuck in this client's QBO profile, and I already have my firm's payment information on file for paying subscriptions in the first place.

I believe this error is directly connected to this client NOT having a QuickBooks Payroll subscription. As I did not have this same issue with another client today who is on our firm's billing that does have an active QuickBooks Payroll subscription.

Hi there, Regina.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), we follow a specific process to complete your e-filing. You must review your payment information before we file your 1099s and email the payment receipt.

I understand that you've already provided your firm's payment information. However, you'd still be prompted by our system to complete or update the payment method. Completing the steps is necessary to successfully e-file the form.

Again, it is not necessary to review my payment information if the client I'm E-Filing 1099's for has an active QuickBooks Payroll subscription. You seemed to have glossed over all of my points and concerns.

Additionally, it is not clear what Company Information is being requested before the step to verify payment information. This is also not a step that is required when they have a Payroll Subscription.

Lastly, this does not address my multi-year concern with providing payment information and having that information "stick" within the client's QBO account, even when they are not a client down the road.

What you have communicated is not logical. When my QBOA firm is paying for a QBO subscription, and a payroll subscription, E-Filing 1099's is not an issue and payment information is not verified.

I'll have to contact the Intuit National Accounts team tomorrow for an answer I can rely upon.

Thank you.
