Join nowI am using Quickbooks Online and I see several posts already complaining about the Sales Tax setting not being able to be turned off. I agree with those comments. I accidentally turned on the Automatic Sales Tax feature and I am following the instructions to turn it off. However, I get a message that states "Sorry. We see you've collected sales tax on one or more items. This means you can't turn off sales tax." (See attached image)
When I run the Sales Tax Liability Report for all dates, I do not have any transactions were tax is applied and I have not collected any taxes.
Is there anything I can do. Does anyone have any information that can help me. I've been working on this for the past two hours straight and I've tried everything I can think of.
Hi there, @mauriceh313. We understand that turning off the Sales Tax feature is essential to your business. I want to share some information to guide you through what to do so you'll be able to get back to business in no time.
Since you are using Automated Sales Tax and haven't created a transaction upon checking the Sales Tax Liability Report, you should be able to disable it.
This could be a result of a browser-related issue. There are times when too much historical data causes discrepancies that affect the view and performance of your QuickBooks. You can try logging into your account using a private window by using any of these keyboard shortcuts:
If it works, you can return to your original browser and clear its cache to start fresh. You can also use another supported, up-to-date browser to narrow down the results.
After doing the troubleshooting actions above, but the problem persists, contacting our Customer Care Support Team is our next potential resolution. They can securely access your account and investigate this matter further.
Here's how you can reach out to them:
You can check their available hours so your concerns will be addressed promptly.

This didn't work. I tried all the browsers on my PC (Chrome, Firefox, Edge). I will contact the Customer Care Support Team since I can't resolve this on my own.
This is QB's refusal to make it where the feature can be turned off NOT a browser issue. Total crap. I am not deleting and reentering all the invoices that say $0 tax and reentering hundreds of them. FIX THIS.....
Same here....I got same lame excuse that since they had a pop up stating that the turning on of automated sales tax was irreversible, it's our issue. Trust me, I never saw any such message. My only fix was to go into my products and services and mark them all as untaxable. Short term fix, but it works for now. I can't believe how much QB absolutely stinks right now!
Don't bother to ask QB for a resolution. It will just be hours of wasted time. They SAY they cannot reverse this, but I call BS. They can go in and turn off tax withholding for any state for payroll purposes, so this can't be much different. They just don't want to allocate the programming hours to fix their stupid program.
