FL RT-6 Quarterly Tax

@ID85  RE: Why QB not populated data for total wages, excess wages, wage base, taxable wages and UI % when filing RT-6 form.

Usually this happens when QuickBooks doesn't find any employees that have the key FL tax on their paychecks for the reporting period.

It appears that the RT-6 form is how you report your unemployment tax, which Florida cleverly renamed "Reemployment" - just to confuse everyone, I suppose.

In QuickBooks this tax is by default named "FL - Unemployment Company" and each employee should have SUI selected in the tax setup area, so it is included on each paycheck:

And, each FL employee's paycheck should include the item.

Only employees that have the "FL - Unemployment Company" SUI item on their paychecks will appear on the form.

Questions:

- If you review your employee's is the tax checked off as above?

- If you review the paychecks, or create a QuickReport for the item for the reporting period, is the item on the checks for each FL employee?

FL RT-6 Quarterly Tax

Thanks for reaching out to the Community, ID85.

If you're manually filing forms, before you prepare a tax form, confirm you've made all tax payments related to it in QuickBooks. For state tax payments, you can create and print the check to send to your state agencies.

Here's how:

  1. In the top menu bar, go to Employees, Payroll Taxes and Liabilities, then Payroll Scheduled Liabilities.
  2. Choose your tax to pay from the list and click View/Pay.
  3. Hit Save & Close.
  4. Select Print Checks.

Next, you'll be able to prepare and save/print your form.

In the event you're using Payroll Assisted, Intuit pays and files your federal/state forms for you. If this is the case, and data which should be populating on a form isn't populating on it, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research with you, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

They can be reached while you're signed in:

  1. In your top menu bar, go to Help, then QuickBooks Desktop Help.

  2. Click Contact Us.

  3. Enter a brief description of the issue in our Ask a question (or tell us what's wrong) field, then hit Continue.

  4. Select We’ll contact you for a callback or Message Us to start an instant messaging session.

Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.

I'll be here to help if there's any additional questions. Have a lovely Friday!

Nothing the OP asked about has anything whatsoever to do with paying the accrued taxes. Did you even read the question?

FL RT-6 Quarterly Tax

Thank you for your great answer! you have explained the reason why the data did not get populated in RT-6 form. I moved my company from TX to Florida in Jan 2024 and missed updating the payroll state tax from TX to FL. My previous (Jan-Mar 2024) pay checks had TX marked as SUI. The checks had cleared and reconciled in QB. Is there a way to update them from TX to FL so I can use QB to efile RT-6 form? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

There's no way to add or remove taxes from existing paychecks.

The solution in these cases is to enter Liability Adjustment transactions. Enter one per employee for the quarter and make sure to negate the wages and tax from the old TX item and add the correct wages and tax for the FL item. Make the adjustments for the first quarter, and then if needed also a separate set of adjustments for the second quarter.

After doing so, then the form for last quarter should work as expected, except that the number of employees stuff probably won't work.
