How do I set up sales tax for different counties in one state

I'm here to help you set up sales tax for different counties in one state, info.

 

Tax agencies include the cities and county jurisdictions where you pay taxes. To set up sales tax in North Carolina, you'll need to add their tax agency in QuickBooks Online (QBO). 

 

If it's your first time setting up your sales tax, please refer to the steps below:

 

  1. Go to Taxes and choose Sales tax.
  2. On the upper right corner, select Add/ edit tax rates and agencies.
  3. Click New and choose either a single or a combined tax rate.
  4. Enter a name for the tax, the agency you pay, and the percentage for the rate. Use a single rate if you pay one rate to a single agency.
  5. Hit Save.

 

However, if it's not your first time setting up, you can directly add the agency. Here's how

 

  1. Go to the Taxes and select Sales Tax.
  2. Click the Sales Tax Settings button.
  3. Hit Add Agency.
  4. Choose an agency and filing frequency. 
  5. Fill in the Start date and Reporting method fields and tap Save.
  6. Repeat steps 2-5 for any additional counties you want to set up sales tax for that are not under one state.
