Does anyone else own a mobile business? I need sales tax to reflect that each sale is made on site. we don't ship anything. currently having to manually change every txn.

For every transaction I have to manually change the Location Addresses so that I can get the sales tax to calculate correctly. I can't be the only mobile business owner that is using quickbooks online, right? It has been a pain, but with the new template, it is a nightmare.

I know changing the address for your invoices to calculate the correct sales tax is time-consuming, Lalove. I'm happy to share more information about sales tax.

QuickBooks Online will calculate your sales tax based on location. We can change from automatic sales calculation to default custom sales tax rate.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Taxes, and then select Sales Tax.
  2. Click Edit Sales tax settings.
  3.  Select the Default sales tax dropdown, and choose the tax you want to appear as default.
  4. You can also choose to Mark all new customers taxable or Mark all new products and services taxable
  5. Click Save

If you do not have a custom rate to select, we can create a new custom sales rate. In this case, it will be easier to change the rate for sales tax than to change the address on every invoice.

To add a new custom rate:

  1. Go to Taxes, and then Sales tax.
  2. Select Edit sales tax settings.
  3. Add custom rate based on location.
  4. Click Save

We, too, have a mobile business and have been unable to calculate any kinds of sales tax on our estimates for several days now.  Even when we manually change it in the estimate, once we hit save it reverts back to our business address - WHICH IS WRONG.  We have tried everything.  The instructions previously provided to laloveland do not work, because we do not get the same prompts WITHIN THE SALES TAX SETTING to be able to edit anything.

We are unable to prepare estimates and subsequent invoices until this can be resolved.  Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated!

I know putting the right location is important when running a business and creating forms, mawofford. I know a way for you to change your address.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), there's another way for you to change your address whenever you're creating your forms and want to calculate your products with their corresponding taxes. Let me show you how:

  1. Go to the +New located in the upper left corner.
  2. Enter the necessary information, such as the Add customer field, Product or service section, and another field.
  3. Tick the Tax checkbox if the item is taxable.
  4. Scroll down and press the See the math under the Sales tax amount.
  5. Press Edit in the Location and addresses.
  6. Enter your address in the Business address, and Location of service. Then press Save.
  7. Click Close.

Laloveland - if you change the sales tax and save it - have you gone back in to make sure your change got saved?  We are a mobile business as well.  No matter what we input into our estimate or invoice, the system overrides and puts the same address on all of them.  Read my post from 9:14 p.m. this evening for more information.

only thing that I've found to work, is to go to bottom of the "see math" on sales tax at bottom of invoice etc and then override and input manually the tax rate you need.
