Intuit pre-printed 1099/1096 forms

Intuit claims in its listing for the 1099/1096 forms that "these continuous forms do not list the tax year."

The listing is inaccurate and misleading because the 1096 forms do include the tax year and are thus unusable in future years. The use of the word “free” to describe the 1096 forms makes it obvious that this listing is intentionally misleading. I asked if it will be possible to order “free” 1096 forms for 2024 and was told no. Thus, the 1096 forms are not, in fact, free. Beware.

Intuit pre-printed 1099/1096 forms

Hello there, tbliss52.

Let me provide details on how the 1096 works in QuickBooks. This way, I'll ensure you can manage this tax form including your 1099 smoothly.

The 1096 form summarizes the information from the 1099 forms you are submitting for the tax year. If you are filing your 1099 electronically with us, the 1096 form will flow and filed along with your 1099 and this is a free form.

However, if you don’t e-file with Intuit, you have to file yourself. You need to file 1099s with the IRS and in some cases your state. You may also be required to file Form 1096. You can e-file 1099s directly with the IRS using the Information Returns Intake System (IRIS). To learn more see E-file Forms 1099 with IRIS

To order official IRS information returns, which include a scannable Form 1096 for filing with the IRS, visit www.IRS.gov/orderforms. Click on Employer and Information Returns, and they'll mail you the forms you request and their instructions, as well as any publications you may order.

In case you need to see other related information about 1099 and be updated with this form, you can read this article: Get answers to your 1099 questions.

If you have any additional information about managing your 1099 or 1096 forms, feel free to post a reply below. I'll get back to you as soon as possible, tbliss52.
