Is there a way to remove the Sales Tax line from the invoice? Editing Sales Tax in the Sales Tax Setting to no but it won't let me since it says prior transactions have had a sales tax (which I had set to 0%).

Is there a way to remove the Sales Tax line going forward on invoices for QB online?  I do not collect Sales Tax and had prior set the taxable rate to 0% because I did not know you could turn it off.

 

I have since edited all transactions and active customers to be non-taxable, but prior invoices may have had a transaction set to a sales tax rate of 0%. 

 

I tried turning off the Sales Tax under Edit Sales Tax Settings but receive this message:

Sorry, we can't disable sales tax because at least one transaction includes sales tax. Please remove the sales tax from those transactions and try again.

 

I am not able to identify which transactions includes a sales tax- it may be including the hundreds of invoices where the sales tax rate was set to 0%.

 

Is there a way to turn sales tax off moving forward? Or removing the sales tax line from future invoices?

 

I have also made all customers non-taxable and all transactions non-taxable but the line still appears. The system will not let me remove the Sales Tax line from invoices or edit the sales tax settings to "no" (for do you charge sales tax).

Also, I realized this Sales Tax line newly has popped up after the invoices were converted to the new QB Online Invoicing system layout. It was not appearing on previous invoices.

Hello there, mdjd. I'd be happy to guide you on how to turn off the sales tax feature. 

 

To do this, you'll need to delete any transactions that include sales tax. 

 

First, let's identify which transactions include a sales tax:

 

  1. Hover to Reports, then type in Sales Tax Liability Report in the search bar.
  2. Set the Report period to All Dates
  3. Click the Taxable Amount, to open a report with all transactions with sales tax on them. 
  4. Note all the transactions that have a taxable amount. 
  5. Then, locate all the invoices in the Sales to delete those invoices.

Now, let's turn off the feature.

If you're using the Automated Sales Tax 
experience:

 

  1. Go to Taxes, then select Sales tax. 
  2. Select Sales Tax Settings and click Turn off sales tax.
  3. Hit Yes to confirm.

 

If you're using the Manual Sales Tax experience: 

 

  1. Go to Taxes, then select Sales tax.
  2. If you see the option to go to the new sales tax experience, select Do it later.
  3. Under Related Tasks, choose Edit sales tax settings.
  4. Under Do you charge sales tax? Click No if you don't charge sales tax.
  5. Select Save.

 

On the other hand, there's no option to remove the sales tax line in the new invoicing experience. QuickBooks has made some updates with invoices. You can check out this article for more information: What's new with estimates and invoices?

 

Meanwhile, if you have received a payment from your customer, it's important to record it in QuickBooks to ensure that the invoices are marked as paid. This way, you can keep track of your business's financial transactions and maintain accurate records. Additionally, you can set up automated reminders for your customers when your invoices are due. This feature can help you get paid faster and reduce the number of overdue payments.

This is not really helpful. I am in the same boat as the customer above and had to set sales tax to 0% and have collected $0 in sales tax (and it shows $0 owed), however it's not letting me turn off the sales tax. I do not want to go in and delete every single transaction turn it off and then recreate them, this will take me hours. Are there any other options?? I feel like Qbs online has made the sales tax function so completely and ridiculously difficult for users and I don't understand why??I just want the sales tax line to not show up on my invoices. That is it...I do not have to charge it, so WHY is it so hard to remove that from my invoices??

I have the EXACT same problem, this has been a headache from the start! I have no solution, just came here to see if I could find one. I am hoping they make this easier.

I'll share some insights and guide you in turning off the Sales Tax feature in QuickBooks Online.

 

If you don't charge sales tax but have the setting enabled in your QuickBooks Online account, you must disable it before using the new invoices experience. This is a one-time action that will help set your account up for seamless use in the future.

 

However, if you've already created a transaction under the new invoice experience, the only workaround is to delete all transactions with sales tax and recreate them after turning off the sales tax feature.

 

I also understand that this type of workaround would take time to complete, especially if you've already created multiple transactions for multiple customers. With that, I recommend sending feedback to our Product Development team so they can review the feature and make any necessary changes.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Go to the Gear ⚙ icon, then Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions. 
  3. Then select Next to submit feedback.
