New York sales tax for period 12/01/23 - 2/29/2024 is not found in tax year last year nor this year. How can it be viewed?

After my initial posting, I discovered that the only way to view sales tax for period 12/01/23 - 2/29/2024 is by setting a custom range covering 2023 and 2024. Using the stock "this year" and "last year" skips this time period. It would be helpful if Intuit would tweak things so it would fall into one period or the other.

Still figuring out how Quickbooks Community works, but I was unable to delete post or reply to myself so had to wait for someone else to reply first. Thank you.

New York sales tax for period 12/01/23 - 2/29/2024 is not found in tax year last year nor this year. How can it be viewed?

Hi there, Kurt. Let me provide the possible details that you might miss out on.

We can view the report by running a sales tax liability report. All we need to do is to filter out the Customize tab to our preference.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Taxes, then select Sales Tax.
  2. In the Reports dropdown, choose the Tax Liability Report.
  3. On the Sales Tax Liability Report page, click Customize.
  4. Under the Report period, choose Custom and add these dates 12/01/23 - 2/29/2024.
  5. Make sure we check the Accrual option under the Accounting Method.

It is possible that the Cash option was selected under the Accounting method. If it is selected, then the transactions that haven't been paid yet will not show in the report. Otherwise, it will show by filtering the correct date.

On the other hand, when we created the Invoice, we forgot to check the box under the Tax option. This is also one of the possible reasons why data isn't showing.

Moreover, if you charge sales tax for your products or services, you may check this article which helps you not to worry about calculating sales tax in QuickBooks Online: Learn how QuickBooks Online calculates sales tax.

Additionally, I've added this article that has everything you need to know to get started with Memorized Reports in QuickBooks Online: Memorize reports in QuickBooks Online.

Please don't hesitate to respond to this thread should you need additional assistance managing your sales tax in QuickBooks Online. I'll be on the lookout. Keep safe.
