Good afternoon,
QBO takes care of our quarterly taxes and I have been watching to make sure all submitted forms have been accepted. The last is the ME UC-1 for 3rd quarter. I decided to call the state office first to inquire and they informed me that QBO is no longer filing unemployment taxes for Maine electronically.
The state says they're getting many calls about this. I immediately called payroll support and they knew nothing of this. In searching further it appeared this was done for Quickbooks Desktop but when I called the state back to tell them they said no, it's for all Quickbooks versions.
Is anyone else aware of this?

Hi Lisa,
Welcome to the Community. I'm here to assist you with your concern about e-filing state forms in QuickBooks Online.
The ability to e-file state tax forms through third-party accounting software will depend on each state and the application. The discontinuation of ME UC-1 e-filing in QuickBooks initially happened to Desktop users last year.
It's strictly a QuickBooks internal change, as we can no longer support it due to various internal configuration issues. Your state may be referring to the different versions of Desktop (Pro, Premier, & Enterprise).
For QuickBooks Online, you can e-file the form directly in the system. We still have users who were able to file successfully in the Online version.
We've also compiled links for each supported state to find details on tax forms, withholdings, unemployment and other tax, e-file and pay information, general state and agency information, and employer registration. To view the detailed list, check out this link: Access state agency websites for payroll.
Let us know if you still have more questions about filing tax forms by leaving a reply. We'll be around to help you out. Take care, and have a great rest of the day.

It's not the state of Maine who no longer supports e filing. I have spoken to them twice today. They have done nothing. It's Quickbooks who is stating they can no longer efile unemployment. All other taxes are fine. In fact, our quarterly Maine state payroll tax went through just fine.
This is a Quickbooks issue.
To make it more confusing I called Quickbooks support after talking to Maine for the 2nd time and explained all this. I was placed on hold for a few minutes and when the agent came back they said that everything is all set and the unemployment quarterly filing will go through.
Maine did not change anything, Quickbooks did. The Quickbooks support agent told me the filing will eventually go through.
What is the correct answer here?

Lisa, I just found this out in QB Desktop also. The fact that QB is trying to put the blame on the State is ridiculous! There have been NO changes with the State of Maine. This is 100% a QB issue. There has also been ZERO notification from QB regarding the fact that the returns are not being filed electronically. It's just one more reason (in my opinion) to STOP using QB. There has to be a more stable option out there.
Hi there, the validation is welcome and I appreciate it. My last call to QuickBooks yesterday resulted in the "Payroll Specialist" telling me this is being resolved and the filing will go through. Yet, there are two replies in this thread that point to me needing to call support again. Not sure what that will accomplish.
If I find out anything else I will post it here.
Letting you know that mine finally went through but I'm not sure if they made changes so they can also do it for Desktop now. According to the State of Maine nothing was changed on their end.
UC-1 taxes went through last Friday so I am considering this as solved.
