Thanks for sharing your query here with us, mdacimo. Let me provide insight to help you manage tax liability reports on your sales transactions.

In QuickBooks Online, sales tax liability reports summarize the taxable and non-taxable sales tax you've collected and owe to tax agencies. If these items are showing as Taxable on the report after a certain date, you'll want to ensure that no sales tax is applied to your transactions.

With this, you can select and review the amount of that item on the report and modify it as Non-Taxable. To help you with the process, refer to the steps below:

  1. In your Sales Tax Liability Report, find the item showing in Taxable Sales.
  2. Click on the amount to view the Transaction Report.
  3. Select the specific transaction, then uncheck the Tax box column of that line item in that entry.
  4. Review all information and click Save and Close

In addition to that, you may consider reviewing each of your items to verify and check if there are changes made to these data. To do this:

  1. Go to Sales and select Products & services.
  2. Find the specific item and click Edit.
  3. Under the Sales tax section, press Edit sales tax
  4. Review the details, then Done.

Moreover, I'm sharing this resource to help you submit your payroll tax forms and payments: Pay and file payroll taxes and forms electronically in QuickBooks Online Payroll.

Sales Tx Liability Rpt shows Taxable Sales amt.All sales for period are NonTaxable.Started after certain date on rpt.State added a tax but item is nontaxable.Correct how?

As advised in your message, I checked the customers affected (4 customers) and on each of their invoices the Tax box is already unchecked & no sales tax was applied.  Additionally, I found the specific items in Products & Services and they are already Non-Taxable.  No sales tax was applied to these customers' invoices, however when I run the sales tax liability report and transaction report their sales show up in the Taxable Amount column.

Payments have already been applied to these 4 customers' invoices.
- Can I delete the invoices and run them again?
- Will those payments be initially be applied as credit to customers' accounts?
- Will those payments then be applied to new invoices?

It is interesting that on 2/7/24, NYS's Suffolk County was possibly voting on applying a new sales tax amount.  However, on the NYS website, the amount is still the same: 8.625%.

I would greatly appreciate your assistance in resolving this matter to ensure my data and reports are correct.
Thank you,
M Dacimo

This problem with the NON TAXABLE sales showing under taxable sales in reports is still occurring.

I find more and more of your reports being inaccurate.  This is very concerning.

I need a report to show me NonTaxalbe sales, TaxableSales and Tax amount to complete my NYS sales tax returns.  It used to be easy with by running the varous reports.  Now I have to go through the report of sales and wrtie in the correct data and adjust totals.

When is this going to be fixed?

I wish you didn't need to jump through all those hoops to run a Sales Tax Liability report in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Lisa.

You can access the previous transaction and click See the Math next to the sales tax amount to recalculate the total. Then, select Close and then Save the transaction. This will recalculate the transaction and allow the report to update successfully.
