Tax-Exempt Customers

I need a report that is only my tax-exempt customers. Ones that have it on file and that we do not charge sales tax. I've tried many different reports but it gives me all the taxable customers.

Thanks for becoming part of the Community, AllyShuffleboard.

To verify my understanding, what kind of report are you looking for? Is it for non-taxable sales?

If you need a list of all customers with non-taxable sales, you can run a Non-Taxable sales report.

Here's how:

  1. From your left navigation bar, go to Reports.
  2. In the Search field, enter "Taxable Sales Detail".
  3. Click Customize.
  4. Set a date range using your General ▼ drop-down list.
  5. On the Filter ▼ drop-down, tick Customer Taxable, Distribution Account, then All Income/Expense Accounts from its ▼ drop-down, and Product/Service Taxable, then Non-Taxable from its ▼ drop-down.
  6. Select Run report.

I've also included a couple detailed resources about working with reports which may come in handy moving forward:

I'll be looking forward to your reply. Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Tax-Exempt Customers

I need a list of my tax-exempt customers.  Ones that have provided a tax-exempt form to me and that I have marked tax-exempt in QB.

Tax-Exempt Customers

Hello there, Ally.

Let me share some information about how to run a report of tax-exempt customers in QuickBooks Online.

In QuickBooks Online, you can run Customer Contact List report and add Taxable column to identify taxable and non-taxable customers.

Here's how:

  1. Select Reports.
  2. Search for Customer Contact List.
  3. Click Customize.
  4. Select Change columns, then click the Taxable checkbox.
  5. Click Run report to show taxable.

Then, you can export it to excel to remove taxable customers.

Additionally, you may pull up the Sales Tax Liability report to get a detailed look at the taxes you owe. This is to ensure accuracy before submitting and paying your sales tax return.

Should you need additional assistance with your tax-exempt customers, feel free to include them in the comments below. I'll be around to lend a hand. Keep safe!

Is there a way to do this for QB Enterprise? I don't have the options that you detailed for QB Online.

I'll help you to find the tax-exempt customers report in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @PWECO.

Yes, there is an option that you can use to show the customer's non-taxable status in QBDT. You can run the Customer Contact List report and customize its filter to show in the Non-Taxable Sales column.

Let me show you how:

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. Choose Customers & Receivables.
  3. Select Customer Contact List.
  4. Click Customize Report.
  5. On the Modify Report window, go to the Details tab to tick and search the Sales Tax Code and the tab/s you need to update, then select OK when you're done.

Moreover, you can use this article as an additional reference in customizing your report: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

In addition, you can also create, access, and modify memorized reports to save their customization in QuickBooks.

If you have any follow-up questions about tax exemption for customer reports or other QBDT concerns, don't hesitate to post again here in the Community or leave a comment on this thread. We're always here to lend a hand.
