I do not have enhanced payroll. I have Desktop 2018. For some reason I am unable to file State of Ohio W2 e-file. QB creates the Excel spreadsheet but then I get a Intuit pop-up to create efile for 2014 year. In the drop box you have 2 choices continue or cancel. No other options like change the year, etc. Just those 2 options. You choose continue and you get an error because there is not data for the year 2014. How do I fix this so I can e-file?
Thanks for dropping by the forum and sharing the details of your concern about a pop-up message asking you to create a W-2 for 2014. I'm here to share information and guidelines that could help you.
QuickBooks Desktop 2018 is not a supported version anymore. With that, e-filing is not possible for you. You'll want to consider upgrading or resubscribing to the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop to avail this ability again. Or file outside QuickBooks. You may check your state agency web for options on how to submit the form.

Hi James,
There are no old files for Quickbooks other than backup and those are all fairly recent. Our version of QB is Desktop Pro 2018. I can't update my payroll tax table since we are no longer paying for the service. If that is the reason you can't e-file then so be it. We have not had the payroll service for a number of years so this is new with it not working this year. That would not explain though why QB is choosing 2014 as the year when we didn't start using it and have no records attached to QB prior to August 2018.

That information does not apply. Have Desktop Pro without enhanced payroll. Have no files saved with old years. Oldest would be 2018 not 2014
Hi there, Zenbutcher.
Let me share details about E-filing your W-2s with your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
The QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2018 version is currently not supported anymore. I recommend upgrading your QBDT subscription to one of the latest and supported versions.
Furthermore, you cannot electronically file your W-2 forms if you don’t subscribe to any QuickBooks Payroll subscription. Since you can’t file, you can file outside of QuickBooks. You can check your state agency website option to submit the form.
You can check out this article to check on your state agency websites for payroll: Access state agency websites for payroll.
Let me know in the comments below if you have additional inquiries with QBDT payroll. I’ll be here to assist you at any time.
