Hi there, JackielBCLC.

Thanks for dropping by the Community. You should have no issues downloading QBDT 2012 to port over the files to a newer version. I'm happy to provide some additional information on the transfer process as well.

You'll need to upgrade your company files so you can continue using them in your latest version. First, you'll need to log in to Windows as an admin user. Then, prep your company file and upgrade it. Here's how:

  1. Open your original version of QuickBooks. Then, open the company file you want to upgrade.
  2. On your keyboard, press F2 to open the Product Information window.
  3. See in the File Information section and take note where you saved your company file on your computer.
  4. Run the Rebuild Tool for your company file to preps it for the upgrade.

Once done, QuickBooks will prompt you to upgrade your company file as you open the newest version. Ensure all users are logged out before opening, then follow these steps below:

  1. Open your new version of QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Click the Open or Restore Company. You can also go to the File menu and select Open or Restore Company.
  3. Choose Open a company file, then click Next. If you have a backup company file (QBB) instead of a company file (QBW), select Restore a backup copy and then Local backup.
  4. Browse your computer and locate your company file.
  5. Once found, click to open it. Then, log in to your company file as an admin user.
  6. QuickBooks will automatically create a backup of your existing company file before you upgrade. You can also save the backup in a specific folder by clicking the Change this default location.
  7. Click Update Now

QuickBooks will now start to upgrade. Once completed, click Done. You can now open your existing company file in your new version of QuickBooks Desktop.

If there's anything else you need, feel free to post here anytime. Thank you for your time and have a nice afternoon.
