Historically intuit does not do anything, or even talk about the 1096/1099-misc form until Jan 1 of the new year

You have always been able to use a substitute format for the 1099-misc, as long as you conform to the requirement to use the block numbers and block titles, etc etc, see the IRS pub "general instructions for information returns" for more on that.

Frankly it is easier to get the forms from the IRS, and print them.  But there are also sites on the net that will all that for you, print/send to the vendor and do the 1096 filing with the IRS.
