I appreciate you for posting here in the Community space, Todd. I'm here to assist you with your concern about upgrading to a newer desktop version for your Windows 11 PC.

QuickBooks Desktop's newer versions support the Windows 11 operating system but for 64-bit only. However, the recent versions are only for the annual subscription type.

Here is the list of recent versions that support Windows 11:

  • QuickBooks Desktop 2022 R3 or later.
  • QuickBooks Pro or Premier 2023 and Enterprise 23.0.
  • QuickBooks Pro or Premier 2024 and Enterprise 24.0.

QuickBooks Desktop 2021 and its earlier versions offer a non-subscription-based type for users. However, it doesn't support the Windows 11 operating system.

If you want to convert your company file from your QuickBooks Pro 2012 to a newer version, you'll need to back up your company files and transfer them to your new PC:

  1. Open QuickBooks Pro 2012.
  2. On the top menu, select File and hover over Back Up Company.
  3. Select Create Local Backup.
  4. Choose the Local Backup option and click OK.

Do these to all company files you own and save them to your local file. After that, transfer it to your new PC using a flash drive or upload it to an online cloud-based storage, then download it to your new PC.

The next step is to restore the backup files to your new PC after downloading the newer QuickBooks Desktop version. Save the company files to your local storage, then open it with QuickBooks Desktop.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the File menu in QuickBooks and select Open or Restore Company.
  2. Select Restore a backup copy and then Next.
  3. Select Local Backup and then Next.
  4. Browse your computer for your backup company file. It should look like this: [Your company name].qbb.
  5. Select a folder to decide where to save your restored company file. Then select Open.
  6. Select Save.
