Possible Scam Call

I just received a phone call from a 209 area code; I didn't pick up the call so it went to voicemail. It was someone with a very heavy (Indian?) accent calling himself Alex and stating he was from the Quickbooks support team and that he is concerned that we are not getting the latest updates nor are we synchronizing with.. here he added something unintelligible.

I have no intention of calling this guy back and am going to assume it's a scam to try to get into my QB. My question is how do we know when it's legitimately a call from Intuit; do they actually call or only email? If they do call, how does the name show on the caller id?  Also, if they do call, how do we discern that it's legitimate? What are the clues that it's a scam call?
