I agree, they should fix this issue.  My reports are not as big as yours are, so there shouldn't be an issue.  And that info I received stating that I could click the "email" and then "send as excel", that DID NOT work.  It won't even let me open exel, I get a message saying that excel could not be opened.  Sounds to me like Intuit and Microsoft have an issue and they both need to get together to make it work.  Intuit seems to not care whether it works or not.  When you have to pay the price you pay for the QBDT version, EVERYTHING should work as it used to.  I used to be able to open the report as excel, so since it DID work in the past, either one of their updates stopped that, or an update from Microsoft changed something and therefore Intuit should update to make those work together.  It is VERY frustrating on my end, so I can imagine how frustrated it would be if I had a large file like yours and it not work.
