May I ask if you're accessing your QuickBooks Online account through the mobile app or the browser? If you tried to access it through the mobile app, I recommend logging in with a web browser to avoid this error message.
Also, could you please clarify how you record the opening balance? Is it done through a journal entry (JE)?
If we used a Journal Entry to enter the opening balance, the error is triggered by the transaction (JE) if the date falls within the closed period.
Additionally, if you've already created an account without an opening balance and want to add one, we can add the opening balance later with a journal entry.
If a password is needed for the closing date, we can proceed by entering the password. Alternatively, we can remove the closing period, or you'll want to turn off the close books feature if you have administrator access.
