Accepted Client Invite as Accountant, but unable to log-in

Client is using QuickBooks desktop. While visiting their office, We went through the steps to add a user, set role as external accountant, and emailed the invite. Back at my own office, I received their invite email, clicked the link, added my Intuit credentials and received a confirmation that the invite was accepted successfully. However at this point, instead of taking me to my client's Company file, the screen simply says "only your admin has access to user management".  What steps am I missing? Does my client need to do anything else on their end? Because the instructions on adding an accountant user from this website indicated I would get access to their company file right away. Thank you.

Accepted Client Invite as Accountant, but unable to log-in

I see that you're experiencing some challenges accessing your client's QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) file, @ubmtax. I'll gladly lend a hand in resolving this issue.

The error message you received after accepting your client's invitation indicates that they have set you up as the Payroll Processor. If you are their external accountant, you must be given that role so you can access their company file seamlessly.

To fix this, please ask them to update your role from their QBDT account so that when they send you a new invitation, you'll no longer receive that message. To do so, here's how:

  1. Open your QBDT file.
  2. Go to Company, then Users, and select Set up Users and Roles.
  3. Below Users, click on your name, then choose Edit.
  4. Click the roles from the Assigned Roles box, then Remove.
  5. Navigate and pick the External Accountant from the Available Roles, then Add.
  6. Click OK.

Afterward, they will send you a new invitation containing the correct roles. Once you've accepted it, you can log into their company file with ease.

For reference, please check out this article: Set up an External Accountant user in QuickBooks Desktop.

Additionally, if you want to use your One Intuit Account to manage and protect your QBDT file, here's an article you can read for guidance: How to access QuickBooks Desktop files with One Intuit Account.

Feel free to mention me in the comments below if you need further help accessing your client's company file. I'll be sure to help you out as soon as possible.
