Accounting for Professional Gambler

I have filed with the IRS as a professional gambler for the last 2 years while keeping records and expenses in a Google docs journal. I'm interested in QB Self Employed Tax Bundle to track income/expenses. The expenses seem easy to track. How would I input day to day winning/losing sessions? I do Schedule C and put all of my winning sessions combined in Box 1. All of the losing sessions combined go in Box 2.

Thanks for any help!

Hello, TravisSD.

While we're unable to recommend how you input your winning and losing sessions in QuickBooks Self-Employed Tax Bundle, I'd suggest working with your tax adviser for an accurate recording.

Here's how to enter a transaction:

  1. Click Transactions in the left panel and tap Add transaction.
  2. Enter a description, amount, and date.
  3. Select a category.
  4. Hit Save.

You can take a look at the following article. This will provide you lists of categories to help guide you in tagging or categorizing your transactions as well as organizing them accurately in QuickBooks: Updates to expense categories in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Additionally, you can visit the following write-up regarding how Schedule C categories show up on your financial reports: Schedule C and expense categories in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Keep in touch if you need additional assistance with this or there's something else I can do for you. I've got your back. Have a good day and keep safe.

Hi Rose,

Thanks a lot for that information! I know now that at the very least QBSE will do a great job of tracking my expenses. I currently don't have a tax advisor to help setup my account and make sure everything would be going in it's correct place. Does QB offer service where I could pay a tax specialist to help me setup my account properly or would I need to just find a regular tax specialist somewhere?

Thanks a lot!

I can help you find a specialist, Travis.

You can search ProAdvisors who have been tested and certified by Intuit on a range of QuickBooks products. They're independent accounting professionals that can assist you with bookkeeping and taxes.

You can find one through this link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/find-an-accountant/. Just type in your address and click on the Search button. Then, click the Message icon to connect with them.

I also encourage reading this article to learn the basics of QBSE: QuickBooks Self-Employed Overview.

Feel welcome to leave a comment below if you have other concerns or follow-up questions. I'll always have your back.
