Buy nowWe just opened up a second company and would like to add it to our Desktop pro plus 2022. Do I need a second subscription for this? If we can just add it what are the steps to do this?
Help is here, DP6.
I'm here to make sure that you'll be able to manage multiple companies in your QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2022.
There's no need to subscribe to another license when adding a second company to your QuickBooks account. You can add multiple companies with different EINs separately in order to have the taxes recorded correctly.
Here’s how:

If you want to switch between companies, just click File from the top menu and select Open Previous Company. Navigate to the company file that you want and click Open.

Welcome to QuickBooks Community, RK2023!
Yes, you can run 2 companies in a single QuickBooks Desktop license with the 2023 annual subscription rate. Before creating a new company file, gather your business details. Then, use them when creating a new company file.

Is there is any limit to Number of Companies / Entities that can run on QuickBooks Desktop 2023
I was also wondering if there is a limit to the number of companies you can open in Quickbooks Desktop Pro
I appreciate you joining the thread, @SLD-69. I can give you insights about opening multiple companies in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
The option to access multiple company files in QBDT Pro is unavailable. This can only be done with QBDT Accountant and Enterprise.
At this time, you can pull up your file one at a time.
The good news is that you can create as many files as you want with your subscription by clicking on New Company from the File menu.
In case you need to learn more about the list limit for your QBDT, you can also check out this article for your reference: Maximum number of list entries (list limits and custom fields).
I'm happy to share these details with you today. If you have follow-up questions, let me know by leaving a comment below. I'm just a few clicks away to help. Have a great day!
Thank you for your response, it is very helpful. I currently have 6 companies I own and need to set up a 7th company. When I hit CNTRL 1 - it says that I have 4,194,303K free memory so I hope it is ok to add my 7th company to my QB PRO desktop. I have heard that if the file size gets too large QB can have issues, what is the max file size recommended for each company?
Thank you for your help - I have another quick question - I currently have 6 companies I own and need to set up a 7th company. When I hit CNTRL 1 - it says that I have 4,194,303K free memory so I hope it is ok to add my 7th company to my QB PRO desktop. You're welcome, @SLD-69. It's our pleasure to help.
I can share some information about the maximum file size for each company in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
There aren't any limits on the size of your company data file. However, QuickBooks' performance decreases as the size of the company file increases. If your network can't manage large data files, performance might experience issues.
You can either use the Condense Company Data utility to delete all transactions and create a copy that only has your lists or create a new file from scratch. For detailed guidance on how to perform any of these actions, check out this article: Manage your data files to fix QuickBooks Desktop performance issues.
In case you're having trouble opening your company file, here's how to resolve them: Error -6000, -82, or -6000, -106 when opening or accessing the company file.
Let me know if you have further questions about company files. I'm always here to help. Have a wonderful day!
Do we have this software QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2022., available in Canada ?
Hello cleo2000. Thanks for chiming in on this thread. To make sure I'm on the same page as you, have you been able to follow the solutions provided above?
multiple companies on one user account. I read what people say about that that it is possible to do this on one QB account. But in recent conversations with the QB help chat line, I had the impression that I'd have to have another license to the tune of another $649. I described what I hoped to accomplish but that's what I kept hearing. I'm currently using QB Premier 2021 for non-profits. I always had heard that one could easily add another "company" or business. We are needing to migrate to QB online and soon so I want to get this straight. Can anyone shed light on this?
You have QB Desktop 2021 Premier with a non subscription license, correct?
You can use it for good to manage multi company files. Do you need to run any add-ons (e.g QB Payroll, QB Payment) after May 2024?
Let me chime into this conversation and shed some light, Peter. I'll share insights about adding another company file to your QuickBooks Premier 2021 account.
Adding multiple company files depends on whether you have a subscription-based model or a stand-alone license. Stand-alone ones can continue to create and manage multiple company files. However, you won't have access to add-on services, such as online banking since this version has been discontinued.
In the event of transferring your QBDT account to QuickBooks Online (QBO), we can use a trial version instead. Beforehand, ensure you have created a backup copy of your current company file, and then we can restore it to the trial version. Let me guide you on how:
Afterward, we can export the file to QBO. Here's how:
