Can you migrate a desktop saved copy to online?

Yes, you can, casteinbock. I'm here to share information about your queries about migrating your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) data to QuickBooks Online (QBO).

You have two options to migrate your QBDT company file to QBO. The first option is to do it with the migration tool built into QBDT, but you’ll need access to your QBDT and should have 60 days from the time you create your QBO account to move your data. Refer to this article for the detailed process of performing this on your own: Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

The second way is to use an online tool to migrate them. The tool will transfer data from QuickBooks company files (.QBW), portable files (.QBM), and backup files (.QBB). Let me show you how:

  1. Select the link for your QuickBooks version: QuickBooks Pro/Premier or QuickBooks Enterprise.
  2. Choose Get Started, then sign in with your Intuit Account.
  3. Click Select File then browse to the supported QBDT file you want to move.
  4. Tap Open to upload the file.
  5. Once your file is uploaded, we’ll auto-update it to the latest version of QBDT. Next, you'll see an option to move to QBO.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to guide you through the move to QBO.

Furthermore, you can check out this article to learn what you have to do before using the online tool: Move your books to QuickBooks Online with an online tool. You can also see the qualifications to utilize this online tool. Or go to the Let us do it for you section of the article to contact our experts to help you with the migration process.

Regarding your other concern, it will depend on whether QBO will allow integration from those sources to enter your company data into the program. You can verify it from your source if necessary.

When switching to QBO, you may notice differences in how your books appear. Rest assured, you can visit these articles to help you understand how your data will be moved:

Kindly drop by again if you have any more inquiries regarding the migration process or any other QuickBooks-related activities. I'm eager to assist you at any time. Stay safe!
